Sup' /k/

What do you think about DCNS, the french warship builder?

I've been going through their products, and it seems they're a pretty decent company.

Here's their new belh@rra concept ship : a multipurpose medium-sized stealth frigate (around 4,000 tons), with enhanced capabilities in air defence.

The Triomphant Class are sexy.
For what I know it's a serious company.

Frog here. They're great for major units, the Aquitaine class destroyers are the bomb, the La Fayette class (which the belh@rra is replacing as a frigate in French service) was excellent for its time.

If you want some OPVs, light frigates and other small botes, check out Kership. They're a break-away company from DCNS, specializing in small ships. They already did a pair of pretty nice patrol boats for French Guyana, made for such missions as securing the French space center there and hunting drug smugglers, illegal gold miners and teck lumberjacks on jungle rivers

Such a shame that the French navy has got fucked in the bum by budget cuts.
>>
>>34301312

It's okay you guys still have the strongest navy in Europe now that UK bailed out.

uh-huh.
>>
>>34301845

How so? The UK is getting two new carriers, 5th gen jets, growing its escort fleet to at least twenty, three new 40 000 ton logistics ships on top of what they've got etc.
>>
>>34300949
The French hate that pyramid at the Louvre. They hated the Eiffel Tower too.
>>
>>34301940
But thats different though
>>
>>34301940
Im not American but i can say that they dropped the Stealth Ships Meme very Fast. You pic related.
>>
>>34301950

I think he meant "in the EU", rather than "in Europe", given his "since UK bailed" comment.

I like some of their ships. They've taken some time to get some tech rolling that others use, but like most things French, even if they have faults, they tend to always look pretty nice.

Mini-Burke sounds like a good time.
>>
>>34302287
>Mini-Burke

It's a light frigate, in what way does it make it a Mini-Burke?
>>
>>34302762
maybe because of the "enhanced anti-air" comment ? Burke began as a AA defense against red missile hordes.

But French are still lacking in the cruise missile department. They can strike with their carrier, they can land an expeditionnary force, but not much in the "light strike with missiles to make a point" department, except going for the -literal for once - nuclear option. Lacked this possibility in Syria, for instance.

I'm not aware of a naval adaptation of the SCALP system, I may be mistaken. My apologies if I missed something.

That's the MdCN, which entered service this year of the FREMM.
It will also equip the Suffren-class SSN.

Well the French were the first country in the world to build stealth destroyers so I assume they still believe in the meme.

FUN FACT:
>The glass pyramid design for the Louvre was not an original element. In fact, it was I.M. Pei recycling the design that he originally came up with for the JFK Presidential Library, back when it was originally planned to be built in Cambridge, on the banks of the Charles River, at the site in Harvard Square that now houses the Kennedy School of Government, before the Cambridge/Harvard NIMBY's axed it for being too weird looking.

De Zeven existed before the Horizon.

It was a light frigate the French made first for that, not a destroyer.

They're selling ships and subs like hotcakes. Based frogs don't care too much on who they sell to and don't place restrictions on reselling after you bought from them.
