A Remington 870 and a .357 wheelgun. If you shoot someone, plan to go to court. You do not want a tacticool evil black gun presented as evidence.

For the 870, load up some rubber buck for the first round. At close range it is still very dangerous and it will look like you were not trying to hurt the perp. Keep some rubber buck/slug on hand for the occasional chimpout.

I live in a townhouse as well. Every single gun I currently have will over penetrate and go through probably 3 walls.

I guess it's time to buy a short barreled shotgun and get some low velocity buck.

i use 20 gauge #2 buck in a savage 720 in a townhouse with brick and plaster walls. the 20 points faster than my 12s as well as having less recoil for faster follow up shots. on a related note a buddy of mine NDed his 9mm into the wall of his brick apartment one time, made a clean hole in the sheetrock but no mark on the brick whatsoever.

For that situation specifically a shotgun with turkey loads or #4 buck is ideal imo but really this >>34305387. The gun you are most competent with will always be the most effective. Just make sure you have some good self defense ammo loaded as well.
