Those are definite weaknesses, but you're gaining the ability to ID targets at longer ranges and make more accurate shots if you have a decent reticle. Low power variables are supposed to be a compromise.

The new Trijicon Accupower 1-8x has more or less a true 1x magnification.
Nobody really uses EoKeks anymore. Just get an Aimpoint T1 or T2 if you want something for close range.
