Well shotguns always get shafted because "balance", and I though I could try a game where they take center stage. Make an old-school shooter that's like a combo of Shadow Warrior and DOOM where the character is super fast and mobile enough that he can realistically use shotguns as his only weapons.

The barrels were originally going to be used in 23mm AA guns and thus were rifled. However, the manufacturing process was flawed so they had a ton of them that were defective and couldn't handle a 23mm AA round, so they turned it into, essentially, a 4 gauge riot shotgun meant to be used in prisons. Can fire 23mm teargas rounds with blanks.

How realistic do you want to get this? Fud shotguns only use birdshot (lethality dependent on number of tiles away and possibility of doing a small amount of damage to adjoins tiles due to spread at distance)?

00 buck on the DP and maybe throw some slugs on stages where a long shot may be necessary. Could be a fun game OP

It's about a heavy metal lovin' redneck who gets sucked into a "kitchen sink" universe filled with sci-fi and fantasy shit. Fighting demons and aliens and eldritch horrors. SRM 1216 Revolving Shotgun.

It has a 16 round revolving magazine. You manually rotate it after firing four rounds. It's also closed bolt, meaning you can carry 17 rounds if you do a tactical reload.

You modify the weapons with enemy parts as the game goes on. Mythril buckshot, temporal magazines that hold 100 rounds in a pocket universe, stuff like that. From a video game stand point, they are the same thing. IRL, mossbergs are more hardy, but have shit sights. Remingtons have better sights and are slightly more complicated in design. But in a game, it's just 4 or 8 shots (depending on tube length) and pump action.

Part of the game would be customizing your loadout. Since you wouldn't have all the old-school fps standards (rifle, lmg, rocket launcher, something weird) you'd instead outfit yourself with a selection of shotguns customized to different roles. Having multiple weapons of the same type would provide variety in tradeoffs when setting up your arsenal, but still there are so many damn pump actions and I'd rather try and keep it to a select few.
