How much should I spend on a WASR?

Im looking at one going for about $470 with only some light surface rust on the barrel and sights. Whereas with others they're all in the $600-$700 range.
It's also a 10/63 by the way, is this a better model or something?

Check the magwell for burrs and rounding of the corners. put a magazine in the rifle and make sure it doesn't wobble all over the place. A little movement is normal, but if its sloppy enough it could cause feeding problems, especially front to rear wobble. Check the bolt and carrier of obvious wear spots or mushrooming of the steel, it should be obvious when something isn't right. Check the rear of the bolt carrier for mushrooming of the tail. A little surface rust isn't a problem, its an AK. What you want to look for are signs of the rifles tearing itself apart. Ive got a 10/63, they can be good, but there are also horror stories behind them that give them a bad reputation. Just know what to look for.

Awesome, thanks for the info. It's normal for the mag to wobble some?
Also I can't check it in person (sadly), it's a GunBroker listing.

What should the average going price for a WASR be?

I got the one in my pic for $450, but it had no finish on it, and needed a retainer plate. I ended up painting mine with engine enamel. $470 isn't a bad price based on the pictures you posted. That little bit of rust will probably come off easily. You can however, buy a new Yugoslavian AK for upper $500. It has some proprietary parts though, mainly the furniture. I feel its going to be a little longer before we see WASR AKs drop below $500 new. Not bad for $470 though. The magwell is probably your biggest concern, as when these were imported, the had single stack wells that century opened up to accept standard double stack mags, and some century chimps were really bad at their simple job. I would message the seller and ask how tightly the mag locks in.
