Has the US ever had to deal with anything on the scope of the Beslan siege or the Moscow theater crisis? Or something like flight 8969 where GIGN stormed that plane or GSG 9 stormed the plane in Somalia? Same with GIGN after the Paris attacks.

It seems to me that outside of raiding a bunch of goat herders in the middle of the night, the US's special operations hasn't ever really been tested the way others have. Yet they love to talk about how they're the best.
People say Beslan was a fuck up but the US has never had to deal with anything like it, so who know if they would have done better.

Oh, so a complete and total fuck up that had more to do with politics and the Federal government than anything else?

Quite possibly one of the most impressive sniping feats in the modern age. Night time shoot, multiple targets requiring simultaneous shots, and bobbing around in water both at target and from shooting platform. Absolutely insane difficulty level.

Not really because we don't border any nations with Muslims in them, and the cartels are smart enough not to get themselves in sieges.

No. And that is not scariest scenario.

I agree with you here, because Belsan was an utterly fucked up situation that America should be thankful it's never had to deal with.

In addition to the hundreds of hostages, the bombs rigged to the building, and the numerous armed hostage takers. They'd already had dozens of people killed in the school (all the adult and older teenage males). There were parents outside who were trying to rush IN. And perhaps worst of all, the terrorists were basically passing time by raping the children (they had to kill ALL of the female terrorists they brought with them, because they weren't down with that sort of thing).

Now the Russians are certainly less adept at this sort of thing than the US, not to mention most other Western nations. But considering the chaos that was going on inside and outside (and frankly, it'd be even worse with American parents, who are more heavily armed than Russians), and the pressure to act sooner rather than later, so as to keep more people from being hurt or killed.

That said I think the US counter-terrorist operators COULD pull off a 'first strike' on the hostage takers, taking them down in the early stages before they got all their bombs set up, and shit. Since response time is one of those areas where the Russians lag, but the US is the absolute tip-top!

Pretty sure he specifically means hostage crises, and terrorist attacks.

4 pirates all neutralized at the same time on the rolling ocean. It's impressive, even though small scale.

One of the snipers later died in Benghazi, thanks Hillary.

US SF have done a ridiculous number of raids to; capture/kill persons of interest, seize intelligence, free prisoners etc. Very often it is attributed to local forces and we only hear about it when somebody dies. The fact that all of them have occurred out of public sight on foreign soil is irrelevant.

The impressive part of the bin Laden operation was identifying the target and getting the troops to the target, once they were on the ground (which is what OP seems to get at) it wasn't anything to write home about as they just went in there and shot his family, as any average government agency does.

The thing you ignore, either through ignorance or in furtherance of a personal agenda, is that the only time any special forces are mentioned at all is when things go completely to shit. Unless Navy SEALs are involved, 'cause apparently running off at the mouth is just what they do, now.
