Is there any military rifle with a more unfortunate history than the SKS?
>Designed basically as the perfect WW2 infantry rifle just after WW2 ends
>Almost immediately after get replaced with a lighter, easier to manufacture rifle with detachable 30 round magazines
>Basically only used by rear echelon and honour guards while millions of never used rifles are stuffed into a warehouse for decades before eventually being sold to civilians or 3rd world countries
>Become the go-to poorfag rifle, and thus get bubba'd to hell and back
>Eventually prices soar so high that it officially stops being a poorfag rifle and even some lower end AK's are cheaper, once again getting cucked by Kalashnikov
Poor girls just couldn't catch a break

Remington Rolling Block
Basically what you said except for the civil war.
>>
>>34264463
Yea but can you blame them? Shit they have it better off than the jewyorkers.
>>
>>34264449
To those that got an sks before they shot up in price still have a good gun for shtf situations. I lightly modified my yugo and it shoots great. Since most are milled thry have a slight edge edge rigidity. Weight is their biggest negative in my opinion

They at least got a lot of use in Vietnam and China and Yugoslavia, so not a complete failure.

The BAR shares a similar circumstance (being designed for a war that ended before it could be properly employed), but it was luckily able to see some service in WW2 and earn its place in history

The svt-40 kind of got memed
>Got a reputation for being unreliable and complex because conscripts were to dumb to propertly maintain it
>Desgined to be a marksmanship rifle
>Ends up having insane vertical stringing
>Also favourite of Canadians
>>
>>34264536
That and the fact honor guards still use them is nice to see. The sks may not have been as popular as the ak, but it will always have its place in history

Didn't a lot of SKS's end up in the suez crisis, and eventually dispersed through Africa, and the Middle East?

If the Taliban were using lee enfields, I'd imagine that NATO soldiers incounter sks's all the time.

The PTRS is still used today, and it's literally just a big SKS

nah, the rolling block was marketed to 3rd world shitholes, as it was obsolete when it was in production, but it still sold super well

The rolling block was basically the go to choice of countries who didn't or couldn't want to design their own breech loaders. Or in the case of France it was meant to supplement existing rifles

Yeah, for center fire, semi-automatic rifles we can only use 5 rounds, unless Max the absolute madman wins the next election and saves us from this hell.

Cherish what you have my southern friend and never let the libshits take even the slightest inch, I would never wish it upon another human being to know that pain of being able to fully load four "30" round magazines with a single 20 round box of ammo.

Any diy-ers ITT?

I'm thinking of staining my yugo with this,

Thoughts?
>>
>>34265117
Why, is yours fucked up somehow? I thought most Yugos on the market were new or nearly new and have great wood.

That said, make sure to thoroughly strip the stock of any previous finish, very thoroughly because you're using an oil finish and you want it to penetrate the wood. Best advice I can give you for oil finishing wood is BE PATIENT, don't rush it, yeah it might take 3 weeks or more of daily coats to turn out just right but when it does it'll be worth it. Also rub it well with your hands, your body heat and friction is what gets that super warm "hand-rubbed finish".

dude. are you under a rock? Maxime lost the conservative leadership party race like a month ago.

It's not garbage it's just a 2-in-1. It works perfectly fine unless you just "want" to make it a two stage process.
>>
>>34265222
Actually I stand corrected after looking more closely I was thinking of a different brand. That one should be the real deal.
>>
Excellent!
The instructions on the site say to use warm water to raise the grain and fine sandpaper, but would that apply to gunstocks or would I just be warping/ sanding something that's already pretty porous? More worried about warping than anything.

MAS_Modèle_36.jpg

I'd say the MAS36.

They didn't produce enough of them in time for WW2 when it rolled around, and was already outdated as an infantry rifle by the time it was put into production, as many nations by then were already beginning to transition to semi automatic infantry rifles.

Post war, they didn't see much usage either in foreign markets either, as semi automatic rifles like the Garand were produced in substantially greater numbers, and were therefore cheaper to buy, which is how you see so many Garands in the hands of poorer nations all over the world post war. I mean, what nation would want to buy MAS36s when you have cheaper Garands floating around?

They don't do so well in the surplus market here in the United States either, since the ammo they use isn't widely produced or used in as many other guns, or have as much historical value attributed them. Everyone wants a Garand or a Mauser, not many would consider something like a MAS36 which didn't see much action in general.
>>
>>34265359
Follow the directions, wood is wood. It doesn't immediately warp and twist when it gets a little wet, just don't leave it sitting in a lake overnight and you'll be fine. Good luck!

Poor Poland was striving so hard to modernize their military and designed this promising semi-auto. Before they can go into mass production they get steamrolled by Germany.
>>
The M14 had a pretty unfortunate history
>>
>>34264449
The SKS was still in front line Soviet service until the 1970s. It wasn't until the AKM was produced in enough numbers did the SKS go out of service.
>>34264734
France also used them in WWI.
>>34265362
>Post war, they didn't see much usage either in foreign markets either
France never intended to sell them ever. There were only two countries that adopted it, France and Syria and the latter was a protectorate of France.
>>
>>34267452
No, no they weren't. Spain was still very rich until the Spanish Civil War when the Republicans literally took every bit of gold out of the bank and gave it to Stalin for arms.
>>
>>34265362
The MAS-36 served in two highly aesthetic wars, however - Indochina and Algeria - so there's that.
