I'm considering getting the .30 CQL-BL, that way I can use the same can on my 5.56 and .308, but I guess that the .30 suppressor will be noticeable less effective on a 5.56 than if it was the 5.56 model.

I'm shooting this weekend. Itching for it. Almost a month no shooting. Bunch of new stuff to work on.

I'm jealous that you're TRYING to use up 700 rounds. I'll be happy and lucky if I shoot less than 150 rounds of 5.56, and less than 200 rounds of 9mm. We'll see.

This 100%. There needs to be more development in barrel profiles. Right now I'm shopping for a quality 11.5" that might see some mag dumps. Obviously no one makes a heavy profile 11.5", but basically all I can find are govt profile barrels (gov profile is stupid and sup-optimal for anything not running an M20), and some lightweight fluted barrels.

I've got a Faxon Gunner 14.5" right now that I like.

Yeah I saw the chart, and it supports my position. 10.3" averages muzzle velocity that is 50fps below reliable 55 grain frag AT the muzzle. This means its fragmentation changes are only getting worse. Extra 1.2" should average at least 100 fps more at the muzzle, if not even a bit more than that. People quote 100fps per inch but it isn't linear for short or long barrels. For example you gain more FPS going from 10.5 to 11.5" than you would going from 20" to 21" or something.

An 11.5" making 2750-2800fps at the muzzle will reliably frag further out than an 10.3" making 2650 at the muzzle, since the 10.3" isn't even reliably fragging at point blank. You claim this "further" out is 5 yards. I'm not even going to claim what the actual number is, but at least it is reliably fragmenting at some distance, while 10.3" doesn't at all. My point is that whatever this distance is, even if it is something tiny like 20 yards, it is worth the shorter muzzle device and 1.2" longer rifle to get that extra range and lethality over 10.3"

It is a balancing game either way.

My point is that of course you're defending 10.3" over the 11.5". I owned a 10.5", sold it, and now own noting.

20 yards is probably a relatively realistic conservative estimate of the actual gain. But considering that 10.3" doesn't frag at all, our frag range "increase" ratio is infinite right. You literally get infinite frag gains for gaining a finite barrel length of 1.2" inches.

Of course you're much better off using better ammo. I'm not saying that 10.3" barrels wont' fragment 55 grain at all, and that by moving to 11.5" all of a sudden you're going to frag 55 grain out to 200 yards as if you were shooting a 20". If you own a 5.56 AR with a barrel length less than 18" you have many good reasons to buy several hundred rounds of heavy 5.56 ammo. But when deciding between a 10.3" and an 11.5", I think the cost benefit analysis clearly favors the 11.5"

Astigmatic here. If you've got astigmatism it is critical that you get a red dot with a good degree of brightness adjustment. Astigmatism only makes it harder to get a crisp clean dot. If you're fighting brightness adjustments at the same time you're going to have a bad time. I returned a SPARC II for this exact reason. Not enough brightness settings, so not enough adjustment. The result was that I couldn't minimize the dot size and maximize the clarity of its boundaries in enough different lighting situations.

Wearing my glasses seems to help a little bit. Some people report magnifiers as helping to clean them up. You'll be able to use a red dot unless your eyes are literally ovals.

T1/T2s can be snagged for around $500. You're going to be $250 into your Holosun right?
Try to stretch it out to grab the Aimpoint. I bought a PA MD ADS (Same as some Holosun models) about two years ago. It has been great so far, but all in all it cost me about $250. I wish two years ago I had just waited another 6 months so that I could have spent the last 18 months and the foreseeable future with a T1/T2.

I've tried a lot before bulk ordering, and my rifle is a cheap date. It likes steelcase and wolf gold. Of course it likes black hills, everything usually does. As for hunting ammo, it hates 55gr Barnes while 62 and 70 groups tight. But again, the same cannot be said for your rifle.

thanks for your input, the Holosun I tried in the store seemed fine adjustement-wise (so were the Aimpoints they had), and obviously they were fine when I looked through them, but it was still more a slightly blurry star rather than a crisp dot.
I also read people just look at the red dot through their back iron sight and it gets better, but I'm gonna have to try that out. Also I guess I'd need a different mount for the Holosun then, but the absolute-cowitness-mount might as well be unobtainium in Germany.
