Are the French the most aesthetic soldiers out there? They just looks so fucking perfect with their mix of camo that isn't multimeme, single colored body armor that isn't fuck huge like what US soldiers wear, and their equipment.
They just look look so much better than any other military I've seen.

>>34248237
I think the reason the Russians and French for example looks so damn good is because they have a less is more kind of look.
Look at the Americans how they try and shove as much shit on their kit as possible, most of which they'll never use.
And the Americans have a strange obsession with patches, unit patches, deployment patches, big giant flags and ranks and whatever else they can stick on their uniforms.
>>34248250
Probably the one that's lighter, easier to move around in and doesn't restrict your movement.
So, probably not the conventional US soldier with his 50 pounds of extra shit his Sergeant Major who will never leave the wire forces them to wear.

Or is it just because they have a shortage of desert uniforms?

Also most areas in the Middle East(Africa in this case) aren't completely arid, so woodland still has purpose.
>>34254724

Except Kuwait is almost all desert and the reason was a genuine shortage of desert uniforms and the fact everyone was issued MOPP gear because of a legitimate fear the Iraqis would use chemical weapons (not the bullshit fear of '03).

Camo mixing happens with literally every military that deploys to an environment different than their own (and usually even then too). You've only got so much of whatever the right kind of camo is to issue. It happens with the US too. Early GWOT US military had guys in Iraq with desert uniforms and OD/M81 gear, and Afghanistan had mixed everything because more need for cold weather gear. In the transition between BDU/DCU and UCP you saw the same kind of mix of new uniforms and old gear. Same deal with UCP to multicam. Smaller countries have the addition of less budget to fully outfit everybody in matching gear, so there ya go.
It makes me laugh on internet forums when people are pixel hunting and theorizing about the tactical choice to use such and such gear when the real answer is very simple- soldiers use what the military gives them.

>>34264773

The vast majority of grunts buy their own shit nowadays
My brother basically purchased all of his gear, mostly through Oakley and Nike because the Army has some sweet discounts there
>tfw our government cares so little about the troops that they basically supply themselves with boots and uniforms
>>34264874
>The vast majority of grunts buy their own shit nowadays
They buy a lot of add-ons. Usually little shit- like gloves, boots, and glasses. The vast overwhelming majority use issued armor (because even if they buy their own 99% of units don't allow using different), issued helmets, issued uniforms, mostly issued pouches, issued weapons, issued optics, issued radios, etc.
So, unless your brobro bought and actually deployed with his own armor, weapon, radio, and helmet my point stands my dude.
>>34265058
>>34265078
>>34264903
I was talking about uniforms ya goober
And yeah, they do buy their own BDU's, the army only gives them one set. The purchased ones have to meet uniform design standards and can be either ACU or Multicam but other than that you can get whatever make you wish
>>34248060
And that camo pattern (both in CE and Daguet colors) is objectively one of the least efficient ones ever fielded by any military.
Fun fact, in the early 2010's, the French army was supposed to get a new pattern for their FELIN uniform. Picture related, basically some kind of flecktarn, because flecktarn was invented in France too.
Why wasn't the pattern retained? Because the company making it was suspected of giving informations to other countries or some similar retarded shit, thus millions of R&D went down the drain to make a FELIN uniform cut with the standard CE pattern, only with smaller black shapes, because these retards are very well aware that black doesn't exist in natural landscapes.
Nowadays it's all a mix of CE, Daguet patterns, with OD green or coyote vests, backpacks and tan/black/brown shoes.
>>34265294
Soldiers are issued 4 uniforms, plus 4 more FR uniforms during RFI (regular or FR can both be worn in garrison). On deployment, there is a monthly stipend for the unit divided up per soldier to account for replacement uniform items, so deployed soldiers can end up with many extra uniforms they didn't pay for.
As for buying their own uniforms in garrison, there is a specific stipend alloted on a regular basis to purchase replacement uniforms. So they "buy" their own uniforms on base but are specifically compensated for it.
>The purchased ones have to meet uniform design standards and can be either ACU or Multicam but other than that you can get whatever make you wish
"Whatever you wish" means buying (with your stipend) the NSN uniform. There isn't much wiggle room in that.
>>34264903
You are my dude and I am your dude
>>34256262
No, the whole IdZ and GLADIUS systems were only issued in afghanistan(before that, some guys there didn't even get desert camo). Now they're slowly starting to issue them stateside, but most soldiers still use the old webbing system, not the vests.
>>34265382
At least they weren't dumb enough to fall for UCP or MultiPuke
>>34265606
>MultiPuke
Hurrdurr multicam suxxxx!!!!
Jeez. Multicam might lack the AESTHETIC character that people love, but it's a damn efficient choice for a military. It works well in many environments and at least decently in almost all. It's an excellent choice for issue to troops for a wide range of environments and it reduces the negative effects of logistics trailing when it comes to reissuing a new camo for a specific combat theater.
>>34248211
Blending in is counter productive in an occupation. The civilians of the country need to see you out on the streets 24/7 so they understand the situation.
>>34254952
I have this strange feeling you don't have any actual military experience.
>>34265702
No, we can straight up chalk UCP up to military corruption. The US switched to multicam because UCP was a shit camo- something they wouldn't have done if "high vis" was the purpose.
UCP was a mistake.
>>34264874
This isn't true. Partially, yes, but not as much as you think so.
People buy their "cool guy shit" all the time and stick it on their kit, but you can't go out and buy your own plate carrier, except for certain exceptions in Afghanistan. You have to wear the helmet that was issued, you can't choose a different optic if your armorer gives you an ACOG.
What you can buy are your own gloves that you prefer, boots since issued boots are trash, pouches and stuff. But that's all accessories mostly.
>>34265382
You trolling or what? That camo pattern that France uses is great. I've been watching lots of footage and documentaries about them in Mali and parts of Africa and it appears to work very well.
>>34256719
Do it yourself nigger.
>>34265294
>the army only gives them one set
Holy shit, what the fuck are you doing nigger? Spouting complete bullshit on a board full of veterans?
You get 4 uniforms as part of your initial issue, and then with your yearly uniform allowance you're given money to buy more as needed. No one actually does though, that money goes towards alcohol usually.
Before we went to Europe to spend a year there doing NATO rotations we got issued all new uniforms in Multicam too, and after our second rotation they gave us even more replacements.
I think the only time I ever actually paid for new uniforms was when I finally decided to get a uniform that fit since the onces I was issued initially from basic training were about 3 sizes too big for me.
>>34265867
(rant not at you)
People who get their info about the military secondhand and then repeat it annoy me.
>ZOMG my brother bought some stuff when he was in the Army. All they do is practically issue you a set of boots and a single uniform!
No mention of the literally tens of thousands of dollars of gear the average Joe gets issued because it is evened out because he decided to buy his own sunglasses (at discount) to replace his issued sunglasses. Jeez some people. Like yeah a lot of dudes buy their own mag pouches, but a *lot* more dudes don't and survive quite happily with just the GI issued kit. Plus all the gibsmedats people get before deployment- I got a full combat load of brand new PMAGs, several multitools, flashlight, weaponlight, and much other high dollar shit in addition to RFI.
