Move out

If your parents don't want guns in their house no matter how much they trust you, you aren't getting a gun in the house
>>
Mom dad, look what I bought.
>>
>>34244450
Don't do this. You gotta talk with your parents first about it

Prove you're a responsible gun owner. Take some pistol rifle safety courses, get certified and procedurely your worth

If they don't want guns for political reasons no number of good gun safety education will over come their infinite ignorance

>"mom, dad. I bought a gun."
>"not on anon! get it out this house this instant!"
>"what are you going to do about it, i'm the one with a gun"

Literally the purpose of the 2nd amendment, to fight a tyranny governing over you.

On a smaller scale of course.
>>
Phrasing is important. Tell them it's an "antique" or "vintage".
>>
Are they interested in history at all?

Play up the historical significance and interest of the firearm.
>>
>>34244409
It is better to ask for forgiveness than permission.

When they finally do find out that you own a Turk Mauser tell them it is a vintage rifle, and you bought it because vintage surplus always appreciates in value.
>>
This strikes me a little like a scenario in which I, a very pro-gun guy, am told by my 18-year old that he or she desperately wanted me NOT to have guns in the house. What would be the proper response there?

I can be "understanding" and give up my beliefs and rights in my own house, out of affection for my teenager, or I can say "sorry, this is the way it is, when you have your own place you can do as you wish."

As much as I disagree with your parents' take, which you describe as "very anti-gun," they're completely entitled to exercise that belief in their own house.

I do hold out hope that maybe you can convince them that responsible gun ownership isn't a bad thing. Print out some research (or better yet, get a collector's antique firearms book with color photos) on the history of the gun as a collectible and historical piece, along with info on a small ammo safe that you could store the ammo separately in, and show them how a trigger or bolt lock work. Promise that those items won't come off the gun in their house, and stick to it. Show respect and responsibility and that you've done your due diligence, don't turn it into an argument - you will lose (and should).

Under no circumstances should you do something like this without their approval. It just isn't cool, and this is one of those times where if "no" is the answer, your only option is to wait and be relaxed and respectful about it, bring it up nonconfrontationally from time to time, or wait until you get your own place.
>>
>>34244409
You don't need to, you're 18, you can buy the gun yourself.
Wait, don't tell me, you're one of those lazy fuck kids that never worked when you were a kid, am in the right ballpark?

Tell them it's a valuable antique selling below it's worth, that you've wanted to find a deal like this for however, point out it's like the furthest thing ever from being an 'assault rifle', and if you need to, promise them that you'll never keep ammo in the house so there's no risk of accidents.
>>
Don't buy that as a first gun. Ammo is too expensive and hard to find. I assume you don't have a lot of disposable income. Look for 7.62x39 or 5.56. Ammo can be bought for 5 dollars a box.

That's not a thing and wouldn't be legal anywhere in the US.

>>
For me all I did was told them I was getting my rifle and a very secure gun locker for it and my ammo. They still had a problem with that so I settled it by setting it up at my buddies garage. Only I have access, it's not in the house, and it is only a 2 minute drive to pick it up. They couldn't think of any other reasonable way to shoot it down, pun intended.

>>
>>34244800
Some apartments place it as a clause in the lease agreement. If you sign it and still bring a gun then they have the right to term your lease. Nothing is illegal on either side it's just the terms of a contractual agreement.
>>
>>34244883
So in the off chance you have to use it to end a home invader you also have to move. No big deal.
>>
>>34244883
I literally don't believe you. You may believe it, but I'm 100% sure it's because you heard about it somewhere before, and not because you've ever seen it in a lease. People own guns in apartments in New York fucking City, capitol of Blue America. If they couldn't ban them there they're not doing it anywhere.
>>
>>34244929

http://www.allpropertymanagement.com/blog/2013/05/21/can-landlords-limit-their-tenants-second-amendment-right-to-bear-arms/
>>
>>34244929
Leases can also limit pets and visitors. Why would you think a gun would be any different?
>>
>>34244898
Well if you followed your lease you wouldn't have the gun while there. So you'd have to use something else. Do you think the apartment owner cares? They'll just keep your money and rent out to someone else.
>>
"I can get that Turk bolt rifle now, and learn the art of carefully hitting the bullseye with every shot just like our soldiers did in the Korea War, in WW2, in WW1, in the Indian Wars, in the Civil War, in three centuries of frontier life... or I will just have to save the money for a couple more years and then I can buy any assault rifle I want and learn how to shoot yihaa style."
>>
>>34244986
Why would you ever follow a lease like that. You'd just sign it and have a gun anyways.

You know you're on /k/ right? If you're the type of person that wouldn't just have one anyway, I suggest you find a different board. Like I said, worst case scenario, they make you move out.
>>
>>34244929

That's how.

He's right though OP, you should move out. Then pass them off with your new collection when they come over.
>>
>>34244971
Because having a dog is not a constitutionally protected rights. Landlords can put whatever the hell they want in a lease agreement, whether that lease will hold up in court is an entirely different matter and there is already extensive legal precedent relating to this exact issue.

Landlords can't do shit about you having guns, that's not to say they can't make up some other reason to get you out though.
>>
>>34245721
m8 the constitution protects you from the state not society and individuals. Unless the state you live in has a law barring landlords from banning guns in their properties it IS perfectly legal for them to put a clause in the lease. And the only state I know for sure has a law like that is Minnesota.
>>
>>34244409
Just buy it, say that you wanted to learn about the history of the ottoman empire.
>>
Op, have they told you in no uncertain terms that you cannot have a gun? If so, move out. If they just claim to be anti gun but haven't said you can't own one, just buy one anyway and don't hide it. Be a fucking man.

Do research. Make sure you have ALL the detes before you buy, then approach them. "Parental figures 1 and 2, possibly 3 due to the past 8 years. I have done extensive research and am now purchasing x firearm for recreational and defense purposes, both private and public. My decision is made and non negotiable - I approach you only to make you aware of the situation. If you are hellbent in your illogical idiosyncratic ways, the worst and only thing you can do to me is evict me from your home. Your love is unconditional - prove me wrong."

You are an adult. You're no longer requesting permission - you are informing them.

my parents are ok with me having guns I just get a lecture about financial responsibility every time I tell them I am buying one, (tried the waters with a 300$ 870 and still got the lecture) so i just buy them and sneak them in, this is how I ended up throwing a wasr through an open window at 10PM. Maybe in your case getting a stack on cabinet first would be a good idea and keep ammo at a friends house until you move and convince your folks there is no way the gun could fire somehow, then take them shooting eventually, at least expose them to your hobby so that even if they are anti gun they are at least a little bit more comfortable around guns.

>muh house muh rules

This was in part because their marriage was falling apart, and he was getting more unstable. I worried he'd get physically violent, but he never did.

Later she discovered he spent most of her life savings on hookers. That was a fun time...

Later I told her about the rifle after the divorce, she appreciated the sentiment even if at the time it would have bothered her.

My pops bought me a 10/22 for my 14th Bday. My mom almost shit. He told her he had his first .22 when he was 12, and she reluctantly agreed to the gift if he took me out to the range and taught me gun safety.
We picked up one of my friends, and drove out to the town dump. On the way, he made us recite the 4 rules and read the 10/22 manual and the manual for his Ruger Mark II that he loaned us.
When we got to an obvious shooting site--brass all over the place-- he watched us run a few mags, and then sat in the car, read the newspaper and listened to a ball game on the radio.
We ran through two bricks of .22s, shot up a bunch of bottles, cans, old appliances, and killed a couple rats.

Good times, good times.

I did this with a few friends over the years. Went to their place, banged on the door loudly as fuck with a large hammer (without doing any damage), left a small hammer and a screwdriver I had bought for it on the scene.

Then I ran away and went home.
They all gut guns a few months later, except one that moved out anyway.

You're 18 years old, right?

You're legally an adult.

Much as I'd like to agree with you, and I admit it is frustrating, converting an anti-gunner is a great feeling. Has to be accomplished by degrees, but it's like hitting dead center of the 500-yard gong when they loosen up enough that they start to want a gun of their own.

Converting a noguns to a hasguns is easy. Converting a moderately anti-gunner to a hasguns just takes time. The violently anti-gunner folks probably already have a gun (but won't admit it) because they think they might need it against the 2A folks.

This is ultimate bullshit. If I'm the parent, it's MY FUCKING HOUSE and if you don't like it you can launch your sorry ass into the real world.

In my case, I'd be thrilled if my kid wanted a gun, but by age 18, he or she would probably already have a few. But let's say it's something I don't approve of - my kid had better hope he or she doesn't come across with some smug shit like "I'm not asking permission, I'm informing you of my decision." I don't give a shit if you want a tattoo on your gooch, if you're living in my house and I say no, it'll be the most expensive fucking tattoo in history if I find out.

Now that part is reasonable. Parents are ok with you having it, but it's just their job to tell you it's stupid to spend your money on it while they're supporting your ass. Sneaking some extra funs and ammo in isn't a sin. Prepares you for what you're going to have to do when you're a married anon anyway. Your wife may not mind your guns, may even like them, but she sure as hell will be able to think of "better" uses for "our" money.

I've converted to islam. I am representing my new heritage by purchasing this tool of Allah' glorious will.

How dare you question my decision?! My choice is God's will.

Read, man, read. You missed the point entirely.

The "what if my 18-year old didn't want guns in the house" scenario was an analogy to parallel the one where the 18-year old DOES want them and the parents don't. The parents may CHOOSE to compromise and say "I'll put my own beliefs on hold and get rid of their guns" or "I'll put my own beliefs on hold and let you have one in my house," depending on who's on what side. The point is, it's their house, and they are under no obligation to do so, and they can tell their brat to fuck off and get his own place if he doesn't like it.

>get into guns
>In otherwise liberal Nogunz household
>of age to buy rifle
>go to a Cabelas and pick up an on sale old Winchester .22 for cheap
>get home
>They notice rifle
>"ANON, WE TOLD YOU WE DONT WANT GUNS IN THIS HOUSE"
>lecture continues
>Tell them that I am responsible with it and will only take it out to clean it or take it to the range among other things
>Mother still angry that I "disrespected them" - Father only took her side lightly because it made her feel better
>And so it went into my closet and they didnt make much fuss
>come some months later
>see a Yugo SKS at a local shop I looked around - lots of other nice older rifles, but the sks was a good deal and i always heard of it as a staple and overall reliable slavshit
>Spend 15 minutes to go grab it
>come home
>Same ordeal, but less of a reaction
>Father then tags along with me to the range later on

If you REALLY want it, buy it and then show them first hand how you can be trusted with it and be responsible with it. Worked for me anyways.

Talk to them about it and as some anons have suggested take a gun safety course with your own money and prove to them that you are worthy of trust and responsibility.

However, if they still don't want a gun in their house, you have to respect that. It is their house after all, no matter how ignorant and politically-charged their reasoning is for it.
