Is it worth the $3,000 compared to a $1,000 Colt LE6920?
Can we discuss?
>>
>>34231380
Neutered. No chrome lined barrel.

Get a SCAR16 instead. That's what I did after dumping my mr556

>>
>Is it worth the $3,000 compared to a $1,000 Colt LE6920?
Dont bother.
For the purposes of a civilian, the difference between a semi 416 and any mid to high AR15 are irrelevant, not to mention you could get a top tier LaRue or DD AR for $2k or less. For a range toy or plinker, a Colt is perfectly fine but it would be cheaper to build one. As with most HK stuff (particularly PCCs recently), the inflated price is for the rollmark and nothing more.
>>
It's a fantastic weapon.

But, I'd buy the Colt and 2 grand in ammo.
>>
>>34231475
>top tier LaRue or DD AR for $2k

What exactly is top tier about these rifles? Is this like how prebuilt PCs are sold at a premium, but if you piece together your own PC, you get same/better performance for less?
>>
>gas piston system
shit
>German made
even worse
>>
>>34231380

No.

Why in the fuck would you ever need a piston? Seriously ponder this question. If you can come up with a reason that is worth 2000 dollars, then fucking get it, otherwise it does nothing better than any other AR.

>>34231497

That is exactly how it is.

the H&K is a Mac. The DD or LaRue are Alienware (but not nearly as big a ripoff).
>>
>>34231380
They aren't a bad gun, but I reckon about 1000dollaryroos more than they should be.
Something like a high end AR from Daniel Defence have also been good performers and no complaints with them.

Great rifle; however, if I was gonna blow $3k on a semi-auto, it would be a SCAR 17S.
>>
h&k 416 is built to ridiculous standards and there are 416 barrels with 60,000 rounds down the pipe that are still going strong

on the mr556, you lose the best feature the god tier barrel with chrome lining. the piston system sucks, carrier tilt is still a thing (not as bad as pws or adams arms though) and its heavy and expensive. if you want snowflake 5.56, scar16, bren, or even a b&t apc556

ar15 builds are the way to go thogj
>>
>>34231501
you sound like an asshole.
>>
>>34231572
>better water tight system
You don't use your guns in water. You especially won't use your safequeen H&K in water.

>less debris in gas tube?
Has this ever been an issue for you? I suggest you stop storing your fine gravel in your barrel, it is very bad even with a piston gun.

But what if I get in an impromptu gunfight in a cement plant that also produces bottled water? What then, bitch? Thats right motherfucker, your delicate meme gun will fail and the guy with the 416 will put a bullet in you.
>>
>>34231380
Gas piston ARs are a meme. They offer no real benefits besides making the rifle needlessly expensive.
>>
>>34231603
>carrier tilt.
That's a meme, it only happens to non-milspec receivers, SOCOM adopted the HK416, as has the USMC, and there is no issue with it. That is just DI fags pulling damage control.
>>
>>34231666
>That is just DI fags pulling damage control.
as someone who put in a superlative arms piston kit, I concur.

Exactly. I just finished building my perfect rifle. Came out to 1800 with optics (a 430 dollar Aimpoint.) I don't believe you could make an AR I would choose over this. To get one as "good" that wouldnt be tailored to me with optics probably 2400.

>>34231799

Did you go for more reliably or functionality?

OP here.
So with that being said would it be worth it to just get it then get a chrome lined barrel thus making it more equal to its milspec 416 counterpart?

From the thumbnail I thought it was going to be one of those Calicucked AR's.

Piston AR's are a meme, if you wanna build and AR how about you concentrate on it's strengths ie. light weight and so on, stop strapping on useless junk for fucks sake.
>>
>>34233143
or you could buy an AR lower, buy an assembled upper, the rail of your choice, a chrome lined barrel and fit an adam arms piston kit, even a HK grip and still not spend more than $1200
>>
>>34233413
so then what are my options for a milspec Ar lower if i decide to go the custom build route. because I could give fuck all less about
>lightweight
>meme guns
I just want
>functional
>dependable
>reliable
no matter what is thrown at it.
>>
>>34233444
PSA sells a milspec complete lower for $130 which will probably be fine
but I would go with the aero lower which is $205
aero assembled upper $80

bcm mid length chrome lined barrel + charging handle $296
adam arms conversion is $330ish, that includes the BCG, apparently you can only run that with a standard barrel nut however which means your handguards are limited to magpul, A1, A2
HK grip is $55

all you need is a barrel nut and the flash hider of your choice

yea and so does Sex with a Free Taiwanese hooker, but I also like not having the clap and keeping all my fingers.
>>
>>34233543
It's not like a lower alone would make your gun explode tho.
>>
>>34231380

>Is it worth the $3,000 compared to a $1,000 Colt LE6920?
No. Does the same thing except it breaks bolt lugs because there's no gas to push the bolt forward while it's unlocking.
>>34231525
Suppressed is about it, but like I said above sheared bolt lugs are a thing.
>>34231666
When the Army held 60k round trials to see what might replace the M4 all the piston guns had higher rates of parts breakage, while the M4 had the lowest. Most of the M4's failures where mag related.
>>34231497
Fit and finish. Yeah you don't get any more function out of them than a 1000 dollar AR, but the fit and finish will be nicer. If you're willing to drop 2k on an AR you ought to be willing to buy a nice (ie lead lapped, maybe jacketed as well) barrel and pay ADCO to assemble it.
>>
>>34231380
It's called life cycle costs.
A longer service life can offset the higher initial investment.
>>
>>34231380

The HK416/MR556 does nothing better when limited funds are taken into consideration.

>>34231380
If it's your first rifle, get the Colt.

The MR556 barrel is fuckhuge and heavy and like others have said, isn't chrome-lined or melonited. Send your gun over to Industry Grade Firearms to shorten, reduce the profile, and melonite the barrel. Add in the Geissele HK rail and trigger. People tend to get very emotional about Gas Piston systems because it makes them feel insecure about their purchases. The reality is that the gas piston system (not all pistons are equal) helps weapons in the AR platform run better suppressed and with barrels shorter than 14.5". The drawbacks are that it adds weight to the front (mitigates muzzle rise, imo), more moving parts, and way more expensive than just a standard AR-15.

If you get the MR556, be prepared to shell out almost $5,000 to make it as close to a JSOC HK416 as possible.

Don't fall for the custom build meme. Save up and buy an AR from a reputable manufacturer like Bravo Company, Colt, Daniel Defense.

yeah they are if they use piston guns. the battlefield vegas armorers said they got rid of all their piston guns other than the hk416 because they failed so often

What is so good about them? Apparently I am missing something in my noobness. Like I said I had to make a decision between the ST I bought and a DD. Both were good IMO and I don't think I could go wrong with either....but I come here and people tell me my ST is not as preferred to the DD but I never hear the specifics of WHY....Just: "muh DD is better"

Someone punt some facts off my face and help my derp out.

ST equals the quality of DD at 1/2 the price, DD is just an American HK at this point, selling proprietary gear that Magpul rekts anyway. Bring the up on /arg/ and watch dumb fags who spent money on a DD rifle, a shitty Lamepoint red dot, and less than 500 rounds of ammunition go into full damage control, not bringing any facts or sources other than "poorfag."
