Whats the beast rifle to buy for a first time purchaser of guns?

I've never fired a gun before, and I want to stop being a cuck. How do I go about doing this?

Ruger 10/22

Build up your marksmanship first.

A solid henry 22 would be a great place to start. You'll get a feel for shooting and everything will be pretty inexpensive considering we're talking .22lr. Pic semi-related
>>
>>34222629
i'd say this
>>
>>34222623
Mosin Nagant. 91/30. It will make you a man.

>I'll make you a man for $20 also
>>
>>34222629
No.

AR-15s are cheap. There's no reason not to pick up a decent AR now. I learned basics of rifle marksmanship on an M-16A2, and recoil-wise they are similar enough.

OP, get an AR-15 kit from PSA or somewhere. They are cake to assemble, just do your homework before ordering parts. Or, if you want to jump straight to actual useful calibers get a bolt action .308 or .30-06
>>
>>34222676
First time shooters might not enjoy the 91/30, and the prices aren't really that great to justify it. Don't get me wrong, I love my mosins, but I don't recommend it anymore for first timers. No more cheap surplus ammo, you're spending at the very least $200 on the rifle, and the recoil might be displeasing to a new shooter (i know its not bad, but im looking at it from someone who hasnt shot before).
>>
>>34222695
If you are going to get an AR, there's no reason to buy a kit honestly.. PSA has a sale for the complete rifle with free shipping for $450 right now.
>>
>>34222623
A pellet gun.
My first gun purchase was an AR-15. However it wasn't the first gun I fired. Basics depending on where you live you can play with a pellet gun in your backyard.
>>
>>34222623
Get a cheap AR to practice marksmanship with and something fun but impractical.

An old bolt gun, an oddball BP revolver, something that's a blast to shoot so you don't just get bored and give up on shooting because of how boring the AR is.
>>
>>34222623

.50 BMG
>>
>>34222712
Honestly, I don't know why anyone would buy an AR these days instead of building one.

And I don't even own an AR.

Unless you're 12 don't get a .22LR. They are great for helping kids learn to shoot and handle firearms, but are terrible at helping adults do the same. A rimfire round, specifically a .22LR, will desensitize anyone who is already capable of firing a higher powered round. It will trick the body into thinking 'this is what it's like shooting a gun' and it will be hard to get out of the mindset when you're holding a fire length rifle that is chambered with a more powerful round.

What you need is a random bolt action rifle in .223 or .240. If you need something on the cheaper end get something like a Savage Axis or a Remington 783. They will give you a full size rifle with a 'full size round' and you wont have to try and work your way back up from what is essentially a 'kids gun',
>>
>>34222730
>not owning an AR
>giving advice about AR ownership
fuck off idiot, if all you want is a basic AR you can get one for cheaper or the same price as a kits build and not even have to worry about the assembly which I know is easy, but still.
>>
>>34222730
Because building it is 95% of the fun to be had with an AR.
The rest is just fine tuning it and getting good with a soulless piece of uber efficient but ridiculously dull machinery.

Like I said.
Get one on the cheap for getting good.
Then with the money you saved, get something fun.
Bolt guns, BP revolvers, plain old revolvers, lever Guns, a battle rifle (Hakims are fun as fuck)
Something inefficient that makes you work hard to maintain good groupings and requires a concerted effort on your part to make sure that you have a round ready to fire when you need it.

Don't listen to any of these faggots OP, you want to be a fucking man? Skip all this pussy AR and .22lr shit and get you a real gun. Something like a mauser will make you a man and you'll enjoy every minute of it unless you're a whiny bitch. So what do you say, you wanna be a cool kid?
>>
>>34222744
>cheaper
And there's the problem. I've helpe build ARs, but more sparking the idea of researching their own shit to know exactly what internals, externals, upper, lower, whatever the fuck would be optimal.

Telling someone to go past that opportunity to knowing their self-assembled rifle inside and out in this day in age would be asinine.

ASININE!!!
>>
>>34222758
hurr durr pull a pin out and see what is all inside of the gun or google it. nothings going to be optimal on a basic AR, you either buy a PSA kit or a PSA rifle. You can get the kit and spend more time and money on it, or just get the rifle... either way it'll be the same fucking gun. If you want to know how it works, pop the bitch open and look at it yourself or just google how AR work.
>>
>>34222623
AR's are super cheap these days, so if you really want or need a gun that can work for HD it'd be a good choice. OTOH the classic advice would be to go grab a .22, ammo is as cheap as you can get and there's essentially no recoil.
>>
>>34222775
I have. Which is why I have to conclude... you are retarded as fuck holy shit, my main man.

Bet you can't even explain the pros of the reliabolt system, or the arguments against the wave of short stroke pistons.
>>
>>34222787
go to your local range and ask everyone there the same question and they'll give you a funny look and continue shooting their AR for fun. Nobody gives a shit. You're the epitome of autism, OP doesn't need to know the 'pros of the reliabolt system' to shoot a gun for fun at the range.

ruger 10/22 or marlin model 60

for some asinine reason /k/ has stopped recommending .22lr for new shooters. This is better outlined in the sticky but .22lr is cheap(er), abundant, allowed to be shot at literally every range, and easy/safe to shoot. All of these factors combined mean that you will shot often, and this is the most important thing when starting out, since it will develop your marksmanship and get you interested in the hobby to begin with.

also read the damn sticky
>>
>>34222795
Guess anyone who thinks any more about a car than, "put it in drive, the right pedal goes faster and left slower," is also autistic then.
>>
>>34222835
you think the average driver can open their hood and tell you what everything is and how it all works together? you literally have no idea how the real world works... you're obv a basement dweller.
>>
>>34222822
GBT/fit/ with that attitude.

Also, started with a Red Ryder and got a few actual rifles before my .22 rabbit killer.

In my mind, having to go through the effort of a range trip just to fire .22 would turn me off of shooting.
>>
>>34222846
So, your point being, the inside of your gun works as magic? And the need for understanding is for autistic basement dwellers?

Good Job!
>>
>>34222859
god damnit your autism is actually pissing me off. he doesn't need to build his ar to understand how it fucking works, he can google and find a .gif showing how the gun fires... it's not fucking rocket science and in reality he doesn't even need to know how it works. I can't imagine what kind of smelly ass human being you are.

Barrett M107.

It's a heavy rifle so you don't need to have any training to take the recoil.

The bullet it fires is big, so it's harder to miss your target.

Because it's a massive bullet, it's big enough for any game in North America and is legal for hunting almost anywhere.

The cartridges and magazines are huge, so you won't lose live rounds in your truck.

>>34222859
You're intentionally missing his question, and for that I deduct one whole internet.

He absolutely has a point in that your average shooter doesn't need to know the intricacies of how it functions, simply that they need to know how to do a basic disassembly and proper cleaning. This is similar to how you would need to at the very least know how to refuel, when to get an oil change, and how to do basic car maintenance if you wanted to have a car.

You don't need to know about how your fuel injection system works in order to turn the key and go.
>>
>>34222876
It's literally the most customized gun on the planet, with treatises written on every single part of the weapon.

If you go lowest path of resistance, it just plainly shows lack of character.
>>
>>34222921
>the most customized gun on the planet
the only reason is because how large of a market there is for it and the ease of use of picatinny rails. I don't see what that has to do with anything.

Internals, and frames (uppers and lowers) are just the start of the chassis. Not building from the ground up the one gun that is made to be built from the ground up shows a lack of reverence to not only the craft of shooting, but knowing your weapon or being invested personally.

>>
>>34223021
It's truly interesting how you can string meme insults into coherent sentences instead of just typing "cuck" "autism" "furfag" "basement dweller".

Like some kind of social experiment where they raised an infant having 4chan users verbally shitpost at him, then being swayed enough to not only put up with, but adopt the retardation that gets spewed here.
>>
>>34223049
You don't HAVE to go to a range to shoot .22, just shoot at home. Shoot birds, rabbis, squirrels, or maybe even yourself.
>>
>>34222623
Just get a budget AR, They're cheap, Retardedly simple, And can do most anything you'd ever need a rifle for well enough.
After that learn your rifle's shortcomings and base your next gun purchase off of what role you need better filled. IE: A larger caliber for hunting due to .223 being sub optimal for said purpose.

My first was a Chinese SKS.
I picked it for ammo availability, cost, and the fact is is one of the best semi-auto rifles one can purchase in CA.

I personally didn't want to buy a .22 or a shotgun as my first because they are easy home projects. Figure out what you want to do and tailor your choice to it, bro.
>>
>>34222629
>build up your marksmanship with a .22

Budget ARs are really cheap nowadays after the election. Get a DPMS Oracle for like $600 and upgrade it with the shit you want over time. Bought a dpms m4 clone as my first AR and its a really fun gun to customize. Make sure you get to know how to operate it first though, its really simple.

That's a good choice too, cheap ammo.
The Cz527 is similarly priced and is in 7.62x39mm, which is really cheap too.

Current market has some pretty nice inexpensive boltguns to start on, these sporters are WAY better than the Poverty Rod (Nugget) people used to start with in the 2000s.
