I like to double up foam plugs and muffs but if youre wearing plugs only, make sure theyre in your ear canal correctly. Some people just kind of put them in but they arent really in. It makes a big difference

Most people who complain about plugs put them in wrong, or their ear canal is too small/large. They do make different size plugs, and you can get custom molded ones for not too much.

I use those and I shoot lots of shit up to 7.62x54 and .300 sav caliber with no hearing loss. Granted I've already got a lot of hearing loss already thanks to a childhood of constant ear infections, but that was long before I was has funs.

Ear buds are nice because they are lower profile. You need to insert them correctly though or you may as well not be wearing them at all. You will be able to feel them expand all the way in your ear canal.
When I'm at the range I double up on muffs and plugs. My hearing is on of the most valuable things I have.
