Nowadays, multinational companies simply bribe the local government/general/warlord and just strip-mine everything.

Same people who got made at Russia for invading Ukraine. And Russia didn't even have to actually invade the country to get shit on.

Technically you could say the Chinese have been slowly invading the entire continent for the last decade. Albeit through trade deals and not the slaughter we've come to know and love with regard to African conflicts.

Also Africa is an entire continent, so there's that.

The place is enormous and has a population of ~2 Billion poor people, spread out over ~60 nations, hardly any of which are cohesive enough to mount a defense of their own borders, let alone the continent's.
I suppose you could mount an invasion as a training exercise, but honestly, if you just wanted Africa's resources, just go there and take them. If someone gets in your way, bribe them. If that doesn't work, bribe their enemies.

I think with the recent action in the Gambia, West Africa's finally reached the point where they're not going to stand by and allow neighbouring countries to slide into chaos. Even the Ivory Coast election shitshow from a few years ago was widely condemned.

So, if you tried to take over Liberia, other West African nations would probably just invade and remove you.
