Yeah, actually, despite the shit you'll get over it, this isn't a bad choice. I've owned one Hi-Point C9, and shot a student's .45 carbine (I'm a LEO NRA instructor). They were bulky and ugly and cheap, and had low magazine capacity, but they functioned flawlessly for all the rounds sent through them, multiple ammo types.

I'd say that the ONLY reason Hi-Point is a poor choice is the capacity. I can live with ugly and bulky (um, I guess I should never admit that to my wife, though...) Extra mags are a must.

My nephew sent his Hi-Point JP .40 back for warranty. No telling how many nogs it had gone through before he bought it for $50...but it had a jamming issue. They replaced the slide, spring, some internals, damn near everything but the frame with the S/N, and sent him basically a new gun, with a replacement mag plus a freebie second mag. That is fucking excellent customer service. The only time I've had to use customer service for a gun was on a Ruger .380 with a shitty trigger, and I never got a minute of respect nor any resolution after about a dozen back-and-forth communications, so I'm not going to disparage Hi-Point for "ugly" or "bulky" when they have fucking awesome support for anyone who EVER owns the gun.

I think vZ.58 and CZ-75 would be better, except I've never owned a vZ.58 variant before. I've handled one on one occasion though; awesome firearms. Oh, and I've had an M1 Rifle (made by Springfield to my knowledge, where John Cantius Garand worked) as well as a Springfield Armoury M1911A1 Mil Spec. Yeah the Government-owned Springfield plant and the commercial Springfield Armoury of today are technically different, but whatever. Oh, if only I had an M1A... They're still perfectly fine within 100-200m. But yeah, chances are there's an assault rifle available that is as light or only slightly heavier, with ammo as light or potentially even lighter, however has 2-4x as much accuracy. One SMG that comes to mind, however, is the FN P90. I wager those little 50-rnd mags are considerably light, perhaps even 1.1lb (weight of a loaded STANAG mag of 5.56) or less, and I certainly think it's more compact than most assault rifles save for MAYBE the AKs-74u which may or may not be about the same size (perhaps a little longer with stock fixed or actually shorter with stock collapsed).

I love .45 ACP, and I love pistols in .45 ACP, but I think a primary in .45 ACP is pants-on-head retarded. Ammo weighs about as much as M80 Ball 7.62 Nato (yes, a rifle round), and has more recoil than 9mm while also allowing you to only carry around perhaps half or two thirds as many rounds. That said, if you're going to be using a suppressed/silenced SMG, then I think .45 ACP is the way to go. 185gr .45 ACP is probably still subsonic, will allow you to carry more than 230gr, and though you won't be able to carry as much of it as 147gr 9x19 I believe it'll offer more energy and of course cause larger wounds due to its bigger/heavier projectile that's not going much slower.

So that's really the only case in which using .45 ACP in a primary can be justified; for silenced SMGs. That said, AS Val in 9x39 would be better still. It's designed to be subsonic, and yeah its projectile is thinner than .45 but it's got a lot more weight to it which should in theory provide more energy since it's also designed to be JUST subsonic enough so that it has the maximum velocity possible. Fun fact though; velocity increases at higher altitudes due to thinner atmosphere, so if a cartridge is BARELY subsonic at sea level, it's slightly supersonic if you were to fire it, say, in the more elevated regions in Nepal.

There's nothing wrong with Hi-Point, from my personal experience. I have a much higher opinion of their products than I do for Taurus-made shit.

I have a Hi-Point carbine and a pistol in 45 ACP and they are a lot of fun. They always work and they're both accurate. My kids love plinking with the carbine.

I had a Taurus lemon that jammed all the time (and it was revolver). The cylinder (when loaded) would not turn a complete revolution without sticking and it did this with every brand of ammo I tried. I sent it back to Taurus (after dealing with their rude and condescending customer service) and they returned it almost two months later without fixing the problem. I've met several people who have also had problems with Taurus products. Fuck them--I'll never own another Taurus.
