/BlackPowder General/

For all your black powder needs

Is it better to just invest in a proper setup or get a conversion cylinder and be done with it?

Playing with my 1858 Remington revolvers as we speak. Got one brass frame and one stainless model. I shoot 220gr conical over 40grs of Hodgdon 777. Pretty potent and accurate as far a black powder revolvers are concerned. I'm pretty quick at swapping cylinders now too.

Not this quick yet.

It's probably better to get a conversion, but if you can make your own bullets I would stick with a proper setup.

A proper setup works with anything whereas a conversion cylinder would tie you to buying specific cowboy ammunition. If you plan on getting more black powder guns, then I'd definitely avoid getting a conversion cylinder—you probably know how expensive they are anyways. However, If you aren't looking to get more black powder guns, then there's no reason to avoid getting one. A cartridge conversion revolver would be pretty damn neat, after all.

I'm looking at buying a few more actually, I really like them but haven't fired one in 5 years and someone else did the loading at that time anyway...

>>34180885
First one, decided to go cheap since I'm still learning also didn't want to shell out a bunch of cash since I already have over 15 guns and this is just something to add to my collection

Most people will not shoot them enough for it to matter. Frame stretch is basically a nonissue for 99% of owners.

For me, loading the black powder gun is half the fun. The feeling of plugging the tip of the powder flask with my finger and shaking the powder into the metered spout of the flask while taking in all the sensations of the last shot just puts me in a good mood. I usually shoot patchless with oversized balls so there's not a crazy amount of equipment needed.

/k/ Doesn't have enough black powder shooters.

thats nto really possible without some tuning. to get that fast you need to polish some parts of your gun at minimum
>>
>>34181173

It is mine, and I love all of them. Every time I take one out, I bring it home and clean it so well that it won't mark a white t-shirt. I want these things to be around as long as me since I have so much damn fun with them.

Traditions brand blunderbuss kit. It comes in .54 caliber with a percussion lock—pretty damn small for a blunderbuss. The bore is pretty rough and there's no room for a ramrod. I got the kit as a gift and swapped the percussion lock for my brother's hawken rifle flintlock. I usually shoot .45 balls in a .54 sabot, but it's also fun to shoot arrows and tic-tacs out of. If I were to buy a blunderbuss myself, I'd get http://www.militaryheritage.com/musket9.htm or something similar.
