the concept isn't necessarily trash, after all, it is conceptually similar to western armies turning up in technologically/militarily places during the colonial era. There are a lot of interesting possible plotlines inspired by the Spanish in the Americas, the British in India and the Imperial powers circling China like a flock of vultures watching a dying elephant. The execution is, however, trash, the worst part for me is the MC being some sort of otaku-wish-fulfillment Mary Sue.
