This. The differences between 9mm, .40, and .45ACP are negligible. Yes, the higher velocity of the 9mm gives it better penetration and accuracy at range, and the larger diameter of the .45ACP should cause faster bleeding, but the differences are so slight they're irrelevant.

Stopping power isn't entirely a meme, but when it's used as an argument between those three cartridges it really is. Between them, I'd choose 9mm just because of the price.

However, I think they're all shit calibers, and you should just shoot .357. There's a legitimate stopping power argument to make there.

Oh, I forgot. Whether you're using 9mm or .45, the considered wisdom is that you need to have at least five times as many bullets as potential attackers, because anti-revolver folks don't like to have to aim.
