Hey /k/, need some help here.

Can anyone link me to a halfway decent medical kit to have in my home that I can order on Amazon? I have been getting together basic emergency readiness supplies (fire extinguishers, emergency food and water supplies, etc) but realized I have next to no medical supplies. I have some basic first aid knowledge from the military but it would also help to have some links to some text/infographs on how to treat common injuries with the supplies I'd be buying. Think stuff that I can print out that would walk you through suturing or something like that.

You're better off with just building your own. Most pre made kits are just crap, it's usually cheaper to build your own.
>>
>>34171191
def best to build your own as already stated. check gear queer's pastebin for what to buy
>>
>>34171224
Can you guys help me get started with the basics of what I need? /k/ probably has better more specific advice for this kind of stuff than just google searching.

Link?

This will be a good starting point.

ass load of gauze. bandaids. medical tape. antibiotic ointment. alcohol. peroxide. gloves.

it all depends on your skill level. take a trauma class so you know what to do with all the shit you have in the med kit
>>

This right here. Get trained and dont use crap you're not trained in.

Not a bad idea. The military training is basically just first responder shit to keep the person alive and get professional help (keep pressure on wound, heimlich, CPR, shock treatment, stuff like that). I'd like to be able to do some basic procedures to treat cuts and other moderate injuries to avoid having to go to the ER for something not very severe or in case of the inability to get to a real doctor. I'll have to look in to taking some classes around my area.

good, good. Also, check out skinny medic on youtibe, he holds a lot of knowledge, has some prettpretty sweet videos.

If you have to get a premade kit off Amazon, a seller that isn't complete garbage is Rescue Essentials which sells all the medical supplies recommended in gear queer general, but they will mark up the price on complete kits considerably compared to buying parts individually.

Please no.
If somebody knows how to use one, they know how to assemble a good jump bag or IFAK because they're already trained.

Lightning-x makes a pretty decent jump bag for about a hundred bucks on Amazon, cba to find a link. Get that and add a couple of Israeli bandages, a CAT, and a SAM splint.

Take a wilderness first aid class you mong.

clearly you dont understand the paste bin. it's to get an understanding of what to put into a ifak, you yourself know what you're trained in, you yourself will make the choice of what goes in. like I also stated like a post after the bin, don't use shit you're not trained for.
>>
>>34171798
You have way too much faith in the average anon. How many gear queers here do you suppose are going to get decomp needles and think they know how to use them because they watched a youtube video?
>>
>>34171764
Getting the training is one thing, it's totally different when shit goes down for real and you're trying to remember what to do. Having something easily available to reference could be a huge help. I had run probably a hundred drills for fire/toxic gas in the Navy until both of those actually happened and as much as training helps nothing can prepare you for how you will react for the real thing.
>>
>>34171834
I linked two excellent medical references, but I seriously hope OP takes a class where the instructor can tell if he's doing something wrong and OP can take notes, THEN use the reference books.
>>
>>34171191

Don't forget the super glue!
Get lots of super glue
>>
>>34171872
You're a moron if you think the best course is to act off memory than following an actual step by step procedure.
>>
>>34171739
Mostly not bad. SWAT-T is not the best tourniquet but if you're short on space or money it'll do in a pinch. But so will a triangular bandage and a stick.
Ammonia inhalants are pretty much unnecessary for an amateur.
Chest seal's a nice thing to have but really OP should get training first

>>34171191
Learn how to pack wounds, control hemorrhage, reduce shock, and make an occlusive dressing with odds and ends. You wont always have your med kit with you, but most house holds have duct tape, plastic wrap, shoe laces, and cloth laying around.
>>
>>34171191
I'm gonna disagree with some here and say go for a pre-made kit, and go ahead and add things that are missing on an ad-hoc basis. I've had a lot of instances where it's literally cheaper to just buy an entire new first aid pack than refill an existing one.

How far do you want to go? I get the feeling what you're looking for is something like a combat medic bag like this:

http://www.liveactionsafety.com/military-m17-medical-bag-full-kit/

Maybe add a blow out kit and any other specialty items you feel you need. You'd also need to add in things like medications, if you're going for more SHTF than basic emergency kit.

A step up from THAT would be something like an EMT Trauma bag, but unless you have the actual training to use the gear, it's probably not going to help you very much.
