It seems that my pistol is denting the primer of the chambered rounds. Should i be worried? I know Taurus has been infamous for firing on its own. Pic related, ammunition under a stereomicroscope.

Fuck
Show Taurus
Send it back pronto
You could ND just chambering

Damn, that makes me worried. This is actually my off-duty pistol since 2005, and i was using it during my service because the government PT 24/7 Tactical lot we received was firing just by shaking it, and we sent them all back to the factory (to never see them again, a year ago).

If i send this pistol to the factory, i'll be using literally nothing during my duty.

>>
>>34161305
thats your of duty pistol and you are worried about it?
I think you should reconsider your whole view of defense with a firearm..

Where do you get a fucking piece of shit like a taurus as a service firearm?

Then you go and buy another piece of shit taurus pistol

But you dont stop there you go all the way and buy a .32ACP like is an even barely adequate cartridge... even a 22lr is better..

Seriously just change your work to something where your stupid desitions might cost you and others their lives...
>>
>>34161250
does this happen with fired rounds or all chambered rounds? that definitely doesn't look safe.

also, are you Brazilian?
>>
Literally all firearms will very lightly poke the primer if the firing pin is free floated. It is perfectly fine.
>>
>>34161305

I work as an LEO, i got no fucking choice other than to carry it in single action and locked.

>>34161405
I have actually used this specific firearm in a defensive situation this year (early March), because we sent our old setup to the factory (Pic somewhat related, a PRF loadout with a PT 24/7 PRO, that was recalled last year due to accidental shootings).

It went as you could imagine. I almost got my head blown off from a crackhead with a .38, that didn't stop after received 15 sucking chest wounds with the .32 ACP. If not for my partner, that also shot him with a .38, i would probably be dead.

The results on the pistol were simply weird. After running the 15 rounds of JHP, a lateral piece of the fucking barrell ramp is missing. The extractor is somewhat indented. I spent two months walking around with an unloaded pistol because of my department bureaucracy, and now i've received new ammo, i noticed the pistol is lightly striking the primer.

>>34161437
I did not fire it. It's my service pistol, i use it on single action and locked. Yes, i'm from Brazil.

>>34161466
I'm not sure to what extent it is safe, since this happened with a firearm that was always locked and with new ammo.

>>34161479
Yes, we can only use Taurus revolvers or pistols. Talk about a government monopoly that only fucks you up.
>>
>>34161499
>Yes, we can only use Taurus revolvers or pistols. Talk about a government monopoly that only fucks you up.
Where? So I know to never go there.
>>
>>34161508
Literally whole Brazil. All officers and branches of the police will be using Taurus pistols or revolvers. Last year, some 50 or so police officers shot themselves with Taurus pistols, because they will seemingly hit the primer and fire if you shake it or drop it.
>>
>>34161499
but why 32 ACP??
Why cant you buy an IMBEL 45?
Look if it has to be a taurus make it a revolver or a pt 92 the only 2 good things that they make...

If its going to be a revolver the 7-8 shot.357 617 or 608 should do it against crackheads...

If not buy the compact version of the 92 the 917, its heavy but woth it...

Im sorry you have to deal with such shit goverment policies that put in risk everyone involved
>>
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2fn6GFSwTEw

How can they release such a faulty product and sell it to LEO and civilians...

They should be charged by every death they cause then they will stop fuckign around, they are making firearms for self defense not fucking toilet seats
>>
>>34161605
LEO could'nt buy pistols in 9mm, .40 or .45 to personal use until last year, and i believe this regulation hasn't been applied yet.

I checked and saw they were being sold for some 2.000 dollars, which is way above my pay grade.

This pistol i bought (keep in mind: this was back in 2005) is a variant of the PT-92. I thought it would actually work nicely.

So, if i want to buy an IMBEL 45 or 40 right now, i'd need to apply as a collector in the Brazilian Army, wait a year to see if i'm approved, and then spend a few thousand just in order to have a pistol i wont be able to carry during my duty, since it is merely a "collectable weapon, not to be used for self defense".

I can only buy pistols in .380, .32, .22 or .25 ACP, or revolvers in .38, .32 or .22. Welcome to Brazil, where everything is trying to kill you.
>>
>>34161661
im from argentina, here a taurus revolver costs around 500-1000 dollars why are they more expensive there? i have a 605 and its good... not a S&W tough..

From that list of calibers get a .380 ball ammo high capacity or a 7 shot taurus revolver with +p ammo.

Then wait so you can buy a 9mm to say the least... those pieces of shit over there are carrying serious firepower.
I hope you stay safe man
>>
Geezis, /k/. Embarrassing that this degenerated into a bunch of morons who literally have only learned to shit on Taurus instead of being productive or able to diagnose the most basic problem.

Your firing pin needs cleaning, son. It ain't your choice of brand that's the problem. Carbon or lint crammed in there for sure. Disassemble firing pin assembly, clean with solvent and brush, lube. Problem fixed.

1.93786706 U.S. dollars.

They're expensive because we can't buy anything else here, so they make the prices they want.

>>34161754
A reasonable response. Thank you. I'll be heading to the armory tomorrow and see if i can fix this.
>>
>>34161499
Jesus christ, that's rough, OP.
Can you use your own ammo? I'd invest into some good ammo, if nothing else. My department issues me Speer Gold Dots, and I can't say anything bad about them.

Taurus revolvers are bad, but I haven't heard of any issues with them NDing or being terrifyingly unsafe. Maybe change to a .38spc or .357?
Probably better to keep it simple, given what choices they give you.

>>34161754
PT-92s have firing pin blocks. If the firing pin moves enough to dent the primer without the trigger being pulled, something is horribly wrong.

Well, i can, but i can only buy national rounds (from the only brazilian company, CBC). I used to carry Fiocchi rounds that i had laying around in my home, bought before the firearm imports ban of 1995, just so you can get an idea of how useless is our national ammo, that i would rather carry a 20 year old italian FMJ than a brand new national.

Here's some better (mind you, analog and old) pictures of my model.

That's horrifying.
Learn how to load your own ammo. If nothing else, get some good HP bullets to load into your local ammo.

Idk if you can buy it in Brazil, but in the US, you can get Lee Loaders for about 30 bucks. With it and a rubber mallet, you can (slowly) reload ammo at home.

Can you buy powder, primers, bullets and etc?

>>
>>34162043

>>34162014
I can't. I have used it in self-defense this year, during my active duty, and since me and my partner are still under a internal investigation process (made by the own police), i can't sell, transfer or occult this firearm.

>>
>>34161499
That's nuts! Ask your Taurus rep about a Miami made 1911, in .45acp or 9mm. These guns are better known to people who fix guns, design is 100 years old, .45acp to the pelvis will drop a cokehead wit a blade without another step. Slow heavy crusher, good follow up shot, joy to shoot. have a gunsmith polish the ramp and top of the breech gently and check trigger. Jesus. May God continue to watch over you.
>>
>>34162105
Correct me if I'm wrong, but PT92s and Beretta 92s don't have free floating firing pins.
>>
>>34162178
I actually called a colleague right now, explained the situation, and he informed me i can buy up to two pistols in 9mm, .40 or .45.

>>34162210
Actually, looked into it - #14 is a firing pin spring.
It absolutely should not hit the primer unless that spring and the FPB have both failed or malfunctioned, or the trigger is pulled.
>>
>>34162261
Actually, it does have a chipped feed ramp. But how would that be a problem related to the firing pin block?

>>34162264
That makes me very worried. I could've shot myself in the fucking femoral artery with it.
>>
Suddenly all those hue-made guns make perfect sense.

What's your options for revolvers? .,38 SPC isn't so bad with these restrictions.

Can you order parts directly or from out of country? Fixing that pea shooter could be as simple as a return spring
>>
>>34162304
Buying anything gun-related is a pain in the ass. Lots of bureaucracy and time lost. I'm carrying this pistol because my government issued one was sent back to the factory for firing on its own.

Guess i'll probably acquire an IMBEL 40 or similar.
>>
Hey Brazil-anon, does your department ever actually check what firearm you carry?
Because if they don't check, I'd suggest going out of country and buying something that isn't likely to get you killed.
>>
>>34162348
My department is giving zero fucks about it.

I go into service at 10 AM, go to the armory, get a .38 SPL revolver, and by 8 PM i have to give it back to the armory so that the night shift workers can use it, because there are not enough guns.

This (used) to be my CCW.
>>
>>34162297
But a spare part 9 and 58, then, too. Replace the FPB, FPB spring, and firing pin spring all at once.
>>
>>34162331
Do they check your packages or something? You could easily order "antique car parts" that just happen to have a 9mm conversion kit in it.

Actually heard good things about PT92s . I don't think Beretta parts fit, but ots certainly not a trashy pistol
>>
>>34162348
>I'd suggest going out of country and buying something
I know nigh-zero about Brazilian trade law but don't they have extremely aggressive tariffs on foreign goods?
>>
>>34162374
Save up some money and fly out to freedom land and maybe make a deal with a kommando.

Hypothetically speaking of course. I, a law abiding citizen, would never condone or suggest such actions.
>>
>>34162400
I mean literally going outside of the country.
Fuck shipping anything to Brazil from another country.
>>
>>34162211
They make the 1911 in 9mm but I wouldn't even for another round. 40s&w, I have a .40 s&w by s&w, too snappy. I carry.45acp full size. I think its the easiest to shoot well and I have many guns.
>>
>>34162297
It's dangerous when you load and chamber a round (keep it aimed in a safe direction while loading), and it's dangerous if you drop it.
I wouldn't carry it... but I'm not in Brazil either. I'd rather have that than nothing.

>>34162331
I'm not the kind of Fudd to glorify 45s, but given the poor ammo and gun choices you have... go for a 45. Shitty FMJ 45 will beat shitty FMJ 40, and Brazil is known to make decent 1911s. 45's recoil impulse is also softer, so any shitty parts failure is less likely.

Then I'd also carry a small J-frame revolver with 38+P because fuck Brazil

Well, i wish it was that easy. We are facing robbers armed with AR-15, AKM, MP5, and we can't even manage to work with trustworthy equipment (you get a Boito cal .12 as a primary, an old .38 SPL as your sidearm, handcuffs, a radio, and a slap in your shoulder).

What was happening recently, and the departments were not giving half a fuck about it, was that cops were starting to use aprehended firearms from the criminals. Basically, if your department comes across a HK USP in .45 ACP, you should turn it in to the government, or just say "fuck it" and keep it to yourself. Who is going to police the police, right?

>>34162468
Trust me, i'll probably end up using this gun until the end of the year. We the fucking army in the streets of the capital i'm working. This isn't a game, i almost got my head blown off two months ago during a fucking traffic stop.

Thing is, we're getting more and more foreign weaponry smuggled into the country, in the hands of heavily armed criminals, while we can only use what basically is a metal rod written "TAURUS" with crammed makeshift boobytrapped ammunition inside, that is prone to blow my hand off when i actually need it.

I'm considering just emigrating into the US and selling hotdogs in Miami.
>>
>>34162297
If the heat treatment is off, and sometimes that is done 3rd party, you have parts that break, get bent, ect. strip the entire pistol and roll that firing pin on a glass table and see if it is bent.expecially the tip of the pin. did your pistol fail to feed when the ramp chipped? I wonder if your round did not go into battery all the way and the back of the case caught the pin somehow. Anyway really check it or have a gunsmith check it.
>>

There's your problem. .32 ACP + JHP = under penetration.

Tried to skim the thread but lost track of who OP was. Did you ever say what specific model you had?

I have a PT24/7 G2 and the only time I ever had a dented primer was when I tried to cock it into SA without firing first (for research purposes in a safe manner). But otherwise it has been fine.

If you weren't a police officer I'd suggest israeli carrying.
>>
>>34162795

Well, good ammo in a .32 ACP CAP is generally hot euro ball or a good, good HP. With that shit y'all run, I doubt you're even getting adequate penetration or expansion. And in drugged up targets, and it's a recipe for disaster. On US soil, .32 ACP with good ammo can do as well as 50-65 percent one-shot stops.

>>34162914
I've been in the federal rodoviary police for 15 years by now. I've stopped three robbers while off duty, and never fired a single round. And this year, during a simple traffic stop (called Balada Segura, used to reduce drunk or unlicensed drivers), a meth head simply got out of his car, and without saying anything unloaded a .38 snub, a few meters away from me.

One of the worst feelings in the world is to shoot someone one, two, three, five, seven times, and the person simply did not fucking drop.

I don't consider myself a warrior. I'm just a civillian who wants to make the world a better place, and had no choice other than that.

not him but ammo is strictly controlled down here and expensive as fuck, if you made your own rounds they prolly think it would be harder to "trace back"

>I'm not sure to what extent it is safe, since this happened with a firearm that was always locked and with new ammo.
It IS NORMAL for many pistols. You won't set off a primer by slowly deforming it in a way that minor.

You can check if it's safe by smacking the absolute fuck out of the hammer with a flashlight or something. Hold it down range while you do this, and if the bullet doesn't fire your firing pin isn't dangerous.

Dropsafe doesn't always mean it won't dent the primer.

I can't reload ammo. I can't legally buy the powder or equipments.

And believe it or not, there is legislation stopping me from using reloaded ammo in self defense.

I'll have a look into it.

I'll be going to bed now. Thank you, everyone. You were very helpful, and i owe /k/ one. Will post interesting shit from my job when i can. Not sure if anyone will be interested, though.

Lol, what.

>>34163029
Yes, you read that right. I didn't miss a single round, and he still didn't drop. Some of the rounds even hit his throat, i'm not even sure how he managed to walk (or in this case, run) it out.

>>34163031
I didn't vote red.

>>34163035
Yep, pretty much it. They were even discussing how my rounds didn't have the "C" marking (that denotes a national CBC marking), and how it would be illegal if those were reloaded charges. Luckily, i still had my Fiocchi box here.

Sorry, buddy, just saw that you can't reload.

Semiwadcutters are wadcutters that have a projection(which unintentionally makes them cycle in many blowback designs) and they tear through flesh instead of deforming or tearing it aside. Think of it like poking a hole through a piece of bread with your finger vs sticking a knife in it.
>>
>>34163062
have you considered doing 'Mexican match ammo'? take apart a few rounds and use the powder from them to make a few hotter/ consistently loaded rounds?
>>
>>34163117
Wadcutters are the only weak round worth shooting, you should have a revolver instead so you can get some. I know you said you're SOL now, though, so do >>34163122 this ideally

I'd be worried if i owned a Taurus

Come sell hot dogs dude

>>34162995
Thank you kindly for the advise. The G2 has some safeties that were not present in the earlier 24/7 that Brazilian police used. It is terrible what Taurus has done to you guys.

Nevertheless, I think that dented primers would be normal on a hammer fired gun, especially if you carry it decocked. But I have only ever carred striker guns so I don't know. I would make sure that the decocker isn't causing the dents which would be a major flaw.

You need ball ammo and to adjust your A, B and C boxes when you shoot.
>>
>>34162995

>Should i be using ball ammo?

Yes if you can. .32 ACP JHP generally does not penetrate deep enough to hit vital organs if they expand. FMJ will go deep enough, but you need to be wary that it is a narrow wound channel. To make the most of the wound profile you need to shoot upper chest and face, preferably as many times as possible until they fall.

Technically that would be an accidental discharge, not a negligent one.
