Hey /k/.
I'm planning to buy my first .22 rifle this month.
What would you all suggest for the $300-$500 price range? I don't know shit, but I'm going to be using it for target shooting and home defense.
Thanks.

I was looking at this, thanks.
Would I be a retarded faggot for buying a scope just to use at the range, or is it a good buy?
If so, what scopes are known to be good and cheap for this rifle?

702 plinkster just as good as the ruger 10/22 and cost like only $100.

Ruger customer service is best on earth, best in galaxy, best in the whole damned universe.

Do something snazzy, get a CZ ultra lux

How long is your range?
A scope will obviously help at least a little at any range, but I'd say under 50 yards there isn't much benefit.
btw, low-powder ammo will not cycle a 10/22. Don't waste your money on anything with the terms like sub-sonic or quiet. They won't jam or anything, they just won't cycle the action at all and you'll have to do it manually each time.

That's good to know, thanks.
I haven't been to the range around my town yet.
I'm inclined to get a scope since it sounds fun and I have money to buy shit now, I figure if the range is under 50 yards I'll just take it off.

I have one without and one with see through rings so I can still use the irons. I would try it out first and decide after that. Most people HATE the 10/22 sights but I'm one of those weirdos who like them. People also say good things about tech sights and see all sights but I have no personal experience with either. Also get bx 25s and an extended mag release.

the most important thing i can tell you is that i would absolutely never trust the reliability of semi auto .22lr gun for home defense, if at all possible, since you "have money to buy shit now" get a maverick 88 at least, if not a mossberg 500. which i would highly recommend for an affordable home defense option, and no doubt effective. the maverick is just a cheaper mossberg 500 and still made by mossberg, but it would be worth it to get the 500 since it shouldn't be more than $100 to $150 more.
that also brings me to another thing, don't cheap out on chinese shit, or regular shit, you get what you pay for, so don't get something shitty
