Let's talk gun cleaners.

What do you guys use? I used to use CLP but my LGS didn't have any so I have switched to Eezox. I actually like it more.
>>
>>34156767
ballistol
hoppes no9
>>
>>34156771
Ballistol is my shit, famalam.
It smells good, like faintly of mint leaves and chocolate, and it's non-carcinogenic.
>>
i just use synthetic engine oil.....
>>
>>34156793
Also, if you heat it up with friction, it smells exactly like grilled onions.
>>
Hoppes#9 and Breakfree CLP

>semen
>>
>>34156801
don't do this.
>>
>>34156801
It's fine to do that to be honest. It's not quite as good for rust prevention but it's definitely cheaper.
>>
>>34156834
Not him, but why not? It's made for metal on metal sliding contact and resists all temperatures you gun should ever realistically see
>>
>>34156834
Why not? Let's hear it, tripfag.
>>
>>34156767
Ballistol for cleaning and short term oiling, Mpro-7 for grease. Ballistol is good for wood, so I don't worry about oil soaking.
>>
>>34156856
Motor oil is hygroscopic and will draw water out of the air. This can lead to corrosion (if the oil's anti-corrosion agents are not adequate) but it also becomes gummy or at least more viscous and may fail to perform as well as a gun lube.

It may also be irritating in ways that mineral oil-based gun lubes may not be.
>>
>>34156934
I've heard ATF is somewhat hygroscopic. I've never heard that about synthetic motor oil.

Personally, I wouldn't use engine products on my guns because it just seems rednecky and unprofessional, but I know a lot of people who do and I don't see why they shouldn't. The logic is sound.
>>
Just got a nugget. Thing is rough as fuck and hasn't been cleaned or fired since it was arsenaled. It came to the US in cosmoline, there is evidence of that remaining in the bolt, but I didn't get it packed in it so everything else needs a little something to clean it back up.

What do? I've got rem oil and Hoppes bore cleaner.
>>
>>34157127
Go to the hardware store and get a can of mineral spirits. Get a clean rag and a designated gun toothbrush. Disassemble your meme-blaster and soak the parts I'm mineral spirits for a minute or two, then scrub everything down. I like to dry my parts with an air compressor, but if you don't have one use a clean rag or paper towels. After the parts are dry and free of cosmoline, IMMEDIATELY apply a thin coat of your oil. If you let them sit after the mineral spirit bath, they will rust to fuck. Don't get mineral spirits on your stock.

yeah i just blast my things with remoil from walmart, triggers the shit out of /k/ but all my stuff runs like a dream

boresnakes as well

>used to be a cleaning nazi
>do not PMCS magazines either, use USGIs, no problems
>>
>>34157694
Boresnakes are the best, I swear they work better than brushes and rods.
>>
>>34157715
Boresnek is good for light work, but have rods for heavy cleaning.
>>
The patches I got don't fit snug in the barrel and feel loose when I push it down.
What do I do?
>>
>>34156767
For cleaning I use boretech copper remover and carbon remover, and for oiling I like slip2k. Enjoy your cancer faggots.
>>
>>34157943
I don't clean heavily, because fuck it:

revolvers: blast with CLP then barbar brush, no disassembly required

autoloading pistols: slide comes off, barrel out of slide, barbar brush frame, grips stay on. barbar brush barrel and guide rod. dry pipe cleaner face of bolt under the extractor

no longer own shotguns, but they were all pump, so imagine how much I half assed that. same, AK

762SDN6: imagine how halfassed

AR: i do a good job inside the upper receiver, but no dental picks or retardation. Q tips in the BCG and the like but I'm not white glove treating it. lol guys who clean the gas tube. topper kek guys who get piston because of fearing carbon, WTF?

everywhere else on an AR? you guessed it: barbar brush
>>
>>34157956
Ballistol is non carcinogenic.

Enjoy an eternity in hell for worshipping a pedophile and, even worse, being a tripfag.
>>
>>34156767
Eezox is the best preserving oil.

Kg12 is the best copper remover

The best bore cleaners have been, hoppes elite, kg12, and mpro7

The legit way is to use non metal rods with a boreguide, but i do that only on my bolt rifles. Everything else, i just use an otis cleaner. A boresnake is great, but you have to clean them after each use otherwise solvents will eat at the copper brush portion.

Fyi if you have a chrome lined barrel, DO NOT let copper solvent sit in it for more than recommendes time. Copper solvent will eat the metal around the chrome lining.
>>
>>34157956
what is going out on the porch
>>
>>34157985
Ballistol is also shit for cleaning. Enjoy being a cuck, I hear that's the latest trend in the west.
>>
>>34158021
It still gets on your hands when you're cleaning and when you're shooting.

Not if you add a bit of water.
>>
>>34158087
It's still shit lad.
>>
>>34158045
holy shit do you only use copper ammunition and outdoor ranges?

you chose wisely!
>>
>>34158124
No on the ammo yes on the range, I can shoot in my backyard, why would I travel to shoot indoors
>>
>>34156767

Started on CLP and Hoppe's Elite for bore. Hoppe's Elite didn't do jack shit to copper fouling. Used Hoppe's #9, did the trick, also smelled like sweet cancer.

Used Triflow because CLP ran out.

Switched over to non-toxic Froglube because I moved into an air-conditioned apartment.
Froglube was okay for storage, but the paste definitely turned gummy later. Froglube now used as cosmoline for less used guns.

Switched to Weaponshield. Seems to be working out, but like all non-toxic CLPs it's expensive.

>>
>>34156767
Eezox is more a rust fighter than cleaner imo. It has great rust resistants and I use it on guns I dont plan to shoot often. But for a cleaner, the liquid is a bit weird in that it evaporates real quick into a film.
>>
>>34156834
Hi Elmer
>>
>>34157069
Motor oil is not hygroscopic. This guy is full of fudd-shit.
>>
>>34158033

Well, it's better than "nothing" but it's real use in cleaning is when used with hot water for removing primer salts, then applied to a dry, warm bore. It's not really a good "cleaner" for modern propellants and priming though.

So, used alone for cleaning..No, there are better things out there.

Ballistol is best thought of as an early attempt at a CLP of sorts where it does no one thing really well, but can do many things "well enough".

I keep a few cans around for general use.
>>
>>34156934
>but it also becomes gummy or at least more viscous and may fail to perform as well as a gun lube

While I'll agree on their corrosion fighting aspect being not as important vs. Gun oil. I really doubt their lubrication aspect would be shit since engine/bearings on a car go through the same heat and friction at a much amplified pace.
>>
Automatic transmission fluid is pretty awesome as a cleaner/rust preventative but it stains everything if you're not careful and it smells to some people.

Ed's Red is another good one based on ATF.
>>
>>34158368
Seconded, just be careful with getting ATF on some softer/rubbery plastics as it can make them swell up or soften and degrade, depending on what ATF you use.

does clp work as a lube or is it just a cleaner? also which one do i buy because i just looked on ebay and saw a bunch of different kinds of clp from different companies
>>
Boresnake with hoppes venom + oil. Then i use my spray on CLP to pretty much coat the BCG and inside of the chamber. Then I wipe down with a paper towel.
>>
>>34158609

Good shit but be cautious mixing it with other lubes.

If you see snotty looking clumps, thoroughly clean and use one or the other. The carrier in the grease is solidifying, and you don't want that.
>>
Safariland CLP for rifles and most of my pistols, and then hoppes #9 bore solvent

FP-10 for the rails of my Dan Wesson and Rem Oil for the finish, because that's what they tell you to use.
>>
>>34158680
CLP is an acronym. guess what one of the letters stands for
>>
>>34158815
so it doesnt matter which brand i buy? also do i lube my gun with it or do i need ot buy grease or something too?
>>
>>34158680
CLP's as a whole do all things "good enough"(for the most part) but none of them well.

All on the market are variations on a theme, and you're better off realizing it's not a do all, and using it as a basic lube/short term storage fluid.
>>
>>34158828
there are differences but honestly as long as the gun has any lube it's good. some people use motor oil.
>>
>>34158321
Exactly. I generally use it on wood and leather because I prefer to use real cleaning products. KG and boretech make great products, but I usually stick to boretech. It works so great that I've become spoiled due to the fact there is very little scrubbing involved but its pricey. It also has very little odor so cleaning inside is no issue at all.
>>
>>34158859
what should i buy then? ive shot like 1000 rounds through my p226 dry so i should probably get some oil for it soon or something
>>
>>34158917
Slip 2k is pretty nice and nontoxic, I've used that in combination with aeroshell 6
>>
If you drip your bullets in clp, the gun becomes self cleaning. I haven't cleaned my guns in 10 years.
>>
>>34158917
Whatever you can get locally, on a reliable basis.

Personally I have a solvent tank, compressed air, etc, so how I clean is far different than how you might be able to.
>>
>>34156767
Ballistol.
>>
>>34156767
Urine.
>>
Lyman turbosonic solution in an ultrasonic cleaner, followed by a quick hot water rinse, blown out with an air compressor and dried with a heat gun.

Then, Hornady One-Shot and Moly grease.
>>
I used hoppes 9 for years but only a few months ago tried out hoppe's synthetic for my pistol bores. The shit is amazing, it's about 3 times more expensive but it works much faster and my bores are far more shiny.
>>
>>34158269
bitch please fudds are the ones who spread the "just use motor oil and brake cleaner" meme
>>
>>34157949
buy bigger patches.
>>
>>34157949
are you using a loop or a jag?
get a jag
>>
>>34158284
Technically it is but to such a minor extent it's negligible.

The reason you wouldn't is because it gets way gunkier than actual gun lube due to being much thicker and can affect cycling if you don't clean it often enough
>>
>>34156767
I use clp, but i am willing to try other things also. Next time i run out i plan on getting something else
>>
Safariland CLP

Don't need anything else and you can literally order a 55 gallon drum of it on Amazon
>>
>>34156767
>bore
Hoppes no. 9 for that smell
>general scrubbing / cleaning / rust prevention
CLP
>lube
Lithium grease
>>
I clean with chlorinated brake cleaner and household ammonia and I lube with standard 3-n-1 oil.

Trust me, my guns get cleaner than what you can achieve using a product made for both cleaning and lubing. Don't fall for the CLP jew.
>>
>>34158033
>>34158105
>implying I'm gonna listen to a guy names muslimbro
sand is not a good lubricant
Been using ballistol for 12 years works very well. bye.
>>
I know that Ballistol is non-toxic/non-carcinogenic, but how about CLP? How bad for you is it? I have a little bit of Hoppe's, but I think when it runs out I won't buy anymore - I'll buy something less bad for my health instead.
>>
>>34164578
Lol, why are you getting suckered in by that "nontoxic" bullshit. They're all variants of distilled petroleum products and all are as safe or dangerous as everything else. Just don't drink the stuff.

Do what I do:
>>34164529
>>
ballistol does 90% of my cleaning/lubing. If I got something that's really gummy i'll start with Hoppes. I also have a sample bottle of Mil-Tec 1 I use a drop at a time on slide rails and bolt lugs. I really see no need to go to anything else.

I am thinking of trying out a bore snake though, right now I use a cleaning rod with patches/brushes.

Pic related for clean and protect. Battle born grease for lube.

I pour cooking oil on a basin and dunk my pistols on it.
For rifles, i spray a whole can of WD40 and leave it standing for the rest of the day.
