For decades we got hyped for the Comanche but then it never went into service.

Poor girl.
>>
Whats the fucking point in a stealth helicopter? I mean you can hear fucking helicopters from a mile away. Couldn't a drone the exact same thing as the comanche while being way more effective.
>>
>>34155889
The tech was put on ice for future projects, like the bin laden blackhawks.
>>
>>34157252
Killing Bin Laden for one.
>>
>>34157252
Drones aren't that useful in a battlefield against an enemy with a somehow functional AA on their side.
>>
>>34157252
Radar works at significantly more than a mile away.
>>
>>34157252
You can also hear a stealth jet.
Getting a lock on these things with something other than your eyeball is what they attempt to prevent.
>>
>>34157272
>so heavy that no branch wants that helicopter
>so heavy that one crashed in the operation
>>
>>34157252
It was a response to the increase in Soviet SPAAGs and MANPADS, which makes sense on paper
>>
I will allways associate Comanche with Voxel engine.

It was just a gamechanging moment to play a game with a somewhat realistic enviroment where not everything was flat.

Our local Pig on wings is very audible at night.
If he turned of the nav lights and the BFO spotlight you could get an approximate bearing to him.
Without some electronic targeting system you'd never hit him.

This.

Because the stealth capabilities are from the F117 era.

Completely outdated.
>>
>>34157252
No, drones and attack helicopters have different rolls and CONOPs
>>
I really wonder how much they can reduce the RCS considering there's the massive propellor
>>
>>34158856
It's more about infrared and stuff.
>>
>>34158856
the Comanche's RCS was 360 times smaller than that of the AH-64 Apache attack helicopter

I remember in the late 90's and early 2000's the army recruiters pushing hard this thing and using it as enlistment fodder, and seeing a bunch of kids lining up to enlist so they can get to work on it, then remembering the thing getting shit canned and thinking to myself all those guys got fucked hard

>Be 18ish kid
>sign up to work on the Comanche
>Get out of basic
>get to aviation maintenance training
>comanche gets dumped
>srykiddo.jpg
>lose all interest in choppers / ground crew stuff and get bounced from unit get sent to infantry
>become infantryman
>gets sent to Iraq

Apache is the cooler helicopter though.

My dad was always proud of his work on the Comanche he did a bunch of other stuff but it was always his baby.

So they're the perfect CAS for invading Best Korea?
>>
IT'S NOT FAIR
>>
>>34161539
Strictly speaking, they'd be fantastic for it. They'd be great to destroy elements of North Korea's IADS, and hell, they'd even probably be able to take on everything in the North Korean air force!
>>
>>34160308
that's pretty fucking neat anon

From what aspect?

I just repeated PR claims.

Thx my friend, really beautiful helicopters.
>>
>>34157303
That's the perfect time for drones.

Fill the airspace with unmanned shit and overwhelm the enemies air defenses.
>>
>>34157303
>Not using dozens of suicides drones

Back somewhere between 1999-2002 my dad and I saw one of them fly over my neighborhood, coolest shit ever that was etched into my 8 year old head
