Dude I use to watch that show religiously.
The show was better than the movies. I did enjoy most of the movies, I just found it odd because usually it's the movie which is really good and the spin off show is kind of a fan service that can't really keep up with a high budget 1 1/2 hour thing it started off of so gets really boring and drags out drama quite a lot. Of course the show couldn't work anymore since regular life has changed subtly so much that some of the slightly plausible but not likely stuff that kind of pulled most of the plot together wouldn't work anymore. It was good for it's time is probably what Im getting at.

If you'd actually watch said film, you'd know that Connor wins the prize when he kills the Kurgan (the only other living Immortal left besides him). The only piece that actually acknowledges that he wins the prize in the first one is Highlander 2. The rest just conveniently ignore it.

Terminator isn't that hard to understand. 1-4 are the canon movies.
The 5th one, Genisys, is the only one that actually retconned any of the movies. And I don't mean retcon because of time-travel fuckery. Like it actually ignored Salvation by changing how John met Kyle. Which sucks for me because Salvation was the only 'post-Judgement Day' Terminator movie I liked.

Because when John met Kyle in Salvation, it was when he (Kyle) was a teenager who was captured by Skynet. In Genisys he met John as a kid in a fucking sewer. For all the time-fuckery in the franchise, the only retcons were just implied, not actively shown. John's story was consistently shown each film. No other movie until Genisys actually contradicted it.

John lived a shitty childhood because of Sarah's experience from the first film. John grew up a hobo because of being on the run from Judgement Day. John had instrumental knowledge of the machines/Skynet, positive sentiment of the T-800 series and a wife because of Judgement Day and RoTM.

The first five minutes of Genisys and Kyle's memories of John should've fallen in line with that, but didn't. It literally ignored RoTM and Salvation.

The entire prerequisite for Skynet to even exist is because it sent a Terminatior back to prevent John from ever being born, thus allowing for the tech to be reverse engineered by Miles Dyson to create Skynet. And John's prerequisite to exist is because of Kyle Reese going back to save John and knocking up Sarah. It didn't change the timeline, it established it as a pre-destined paradox.

That wasn't changed until the T-1000 and the reprogrammed T-800 were sent back. Everything would've went as it should for the 'original future' timeline had they not been sent to the mid 90s. But it didn't. Because they were sent back, it changed the timeline to the one where 'Judgement Day' was delayed for another six years.

So, as it goes;

Well, truth be told, I don't think it ever really fit. If you watch RoTM, it gives the impression that between then and the end of T2, John and Sarah never encountered any more Terminators.

RoTM wasn't a very good movie and so maybe the show attempted to retcon it. Alas that attempted retcon was shot down with Terminator Salvation remaining faithful to RoTM's ending.
