A little bit of fine checking is OK. It's when they go full cheese grater that it becomes impractical because it makes the pistol painful to hold. Finger grooves are even worse because they make the pistol awkward to grab in a hurry. Slip on grips tend to slip over the mag release.

They all suck when you add finger grooves. That said (keep in mind I don't own a stippled anything), I do see merit in "cheese grater" grips on carry guns. I could care less if it sucks to shoot, in a draw or die situation I'd rather have everything possible working towards that thing staying firmly in my grip.

That said I also have hand tremors so it may just be me.
