if it's a "near" ambush, you turn and charge at them shooting and throwing grenades, because you are fucked anyway
if it's a "far" ambush, you get down and return fire, then maneuver
those are the book answers but reality is different

this was kind of a "near" ambush, but the palm grove had a fence between us and the guys shooting AKs and we couldn't just assault through and we didn't know where the gate was. None of us got hit, the RPG punched into the Brad, passed behind the drivers head and put a hole in the radiator. Everyone on the Brad crew was scrambled for a min.
The RPG gunner knew where the gate in the fence was and got through it and everyone shooting at us emptied one mag and ran. I would guess they rehearsed it, which is something you are supposed to do if you are planning a ambush.
After it was over we found candy wrappers and cigarette butts where the RPG gunner had been waiting. I'm sure they went home and told everyone they killed a Brad and killed most of us walking behind the Brad. The Brad was overheating, but we were still able to drive it back to the FOB. Scary night, but I can say I survived a ambush.

The reality is you pray you survive like anon did because you're usually fucked, if the attacker was dedicated and not lazy sandniggers their whole convoy/qrf would have been decimated.

Short answer, charge em. Assuming near ambush. Berserk bum rush is the only prayer you've got. Startles some people and throws off their aim when you go against their expectations.

Long answer is situation and context is everything. And you'll be going over the scenario over and over in your mind every day until the day you die if you survive.

Very context dependent, but essentially, you have to move out of the ambush position, however that has to go down tactically.

Really though, you're fucked if you get ambushed, that's the point of the word, and the action. The ebst way to survive is to be strategically aware and not get ambushed, just like wth self defense.
