What prevents the AR weapons system from being upscaled for use on aircraft and naval deployments? It would easily be a more accurate and reliable system when upscaled to fire 20mm autocannon or 5 inch shells - the current 20mm cannon on the F-22 is literally an ancient system from the 1850s. Surely we could place a more modern weapons paradigm in?

Multi barrel is better for sustained fire.

Gas system of AR and single barrel of AR would give up long before the motor driven gatling gun types.

AR maxes out at ~1000 RPM. Aircraft nowadays need a lot more bullets in a very small window, which Gatlings are suited for.
