Is a 3-9x40 scope overkill for a .44mag lever gun? Should I put it on something with a bit more range and precision potential?

I see what you did there.
Depends what you're using the rifle for. 3-9x40 is really all you really need for hunting.

I live in the PNW so I would only rarely get a shot over 200 yards. The rifle is used for hunting, range time, and as my general woods rifle.
Do you really need a scope to stop all that bullying for good?

Sometimes bullies are far away.
get gud at iron sights first
learn to use hand tools with proficiency before stepping up to power tools, kid.

I used the gun purely with irons for a year and I'm hitting the limits of what my shitty eyesight can do with them. I just found the optic on sale today and was considering where to put it.

Even if the scope is a bit long, maybe it'd be fun to see how far out you can touch something with a .44mag? At the very least, 3x seems fine, so you could just leave it on that setting if you want.
Well I'm retarded.
>tried an Eotech-clone RDS on my lever gun's rail
>couldn't even get chin weld, it was beard-weld at best
If I do end up putting the 3-9x40 on this thing I'm going to need very low profile rings.
