Get something in a weird chambering, like .327 magnum or 9.3x62mm.
>>
I got a Spanish FR-8 for ~400 a couple months ago

its a converted spanish mauser that shoots REAL FUCKIN NATO, takes CETME bayonets and was cut to about the same length and has the same sights. Was used to train their troops.

kicks like a mule and always gets questions at the range
>>
>>34140205
that actually sounds really interesting
>>
>>34140110

CZ 550FS.
>>
>>34140066
fn49 and other semi-autos of that era are kinda uncommon, but on the cheaper end. I would look for bolts, Mausers are nice, arisakas are cool too. Moist nuggets are not uncommon but still cool.

Israeli Mauser 98ks can be had for around $600-$800 these days. They look just like the German ones; and most were re-barrel in .308 win in the 60s so they're cheaper to shoot, and give you a wide range of ammo types to use if you want to hunt with it. Mine originally was a German one made in 1942 and rebarreled by the Israelis to .308 in 1964.

Any Schmidt-Rubin is sure to instill both interest and jealousy in any milsurp appreciator. Straight pull actions, expensive ammo, and cost around 500-600 last I checked.

Steyr M1912, old Tokarevs, Colt 1903, WW2 era lugers. Hand nugget is an interesting novelty but overpriced as shit
>>
>>34140066
Manurhin MR73s can be had for well under $1000, they're just hard to find in the first place.

You can also pick up an old broom handle mauser, though for under a $1000 it won't be in a great condition.

You could also pick up a Jungle Carbine enfield. It's basically an officially bubba'd enfield. Would make a great brush gun to boot. Still mad I didn't pick one up for $350 a couple of years ago.

vz58

Pretty much all of the common service rifles from WW1 are under $1K.

I just finished building an Uzi for $550.

>McKay Receiver
>McKay Bolt
>Uzi Parts kit
>A dremel
I could have bought a basic bitch AR-15 for that much. But I thought for the same amount I could have a REALLY cool 80's gun that was cheap to feed and would be fun to play with.
>>
>>34143468
Fuck I would give my left nut for one of these, wonder if I could buy or build one of these in commiefornia
>>
>>34140066

a ross rifle?
>>
>>34143468
I mean if it's going to have to be a semi-auto 9mm I'd rather take a cheap pistol, because at least then I'd have some practical use for it as a CCW. I can only understand semi-auto versions of SMGs if you genuinely enjoy the feel and handling of those weapons. If you just wanted the aesthetics, you could've bought an airshit or paintball replica instead.
>>
>>34140066
>under $1k
Mixed parts refurbished Luger pistol, probably in 7.65mm
K31 7.5x55mm rifle (quite nice rifles still, surplus comes in every year, fresh from Switzerland)
Mossberg 590A1 (this really is just an off the shelf commercial gun that you can pick up at any sporting goods store, but it's a very nice one, compatible with AR15 bayonets)

>>34140205
Oh yeah, those are actually really nifty and interesting
>"We're suiting up for this new battle rifle, but it's gonna take a while to outfit everyone, and we have a LOT of Mauser rifles, so I've got an idea!"
They're just neat to me, a cool stopgap weapon between WW2 era and the Cold War proper.

>>34141806
Stole, bought, gifted (from people who captured them).
They were a young nation that made themselves some enemies and they had really not a lot of materiel to go around. Early Israeli arms is very fascinating for how absolutely ragtag and mishmash it all was, if you looked in an armory at the time, you'd find all kinds of shit from WW2, from all kinds of sides, Mausers, Stens, MP40s, MG42s, MG34s, M1 Carbines (which they are rather fond of still), Enfields, Webleys, Walthers, Sauers, you name it, there's big chances they had it.

The idea of rebarreling a Mauser K98k for 7.62mm NATO tickles me in the same way as the FR8, it has a utilitarian quality to it, though it's more desperate, given how there were basically little to no standards in their arms and they were sick of keeping a billion different calibers in inventory, or being unable to use guns they had because they were in a caliber they couldn't supply.
>>
>>34144221
Uzi carbines are really nice plinkers, fun for short range target shooting, think a bigger 10/22
>>
>>34140180
Fuck the 550 makes me tingle.

Get a Madsen M47; the last military procured bolt action rifle. The Colombians ordered 6000 of them from Denmark in the 1950s.
>>
>>34146716
>the last military procured bolt action rifle.
Last designed perhaps, but FN-Herstal and Crvena Zastava were both taking orders for Mauser rifles through 1965.
