What is a sticky bolt? I've got a mosin and it's bolt works smooth all the time, before and after firing surplus ammo.

However, when I shoot Tulammo through it, you gotta wack that fucking bolt handle up. Is that the sticky bolt? Anyone else just have that issue with Tula?

Its the easiest bolt to take apart as well. In fact, the entire gun is retarded easy to take apart and clean. You can do a full detail cleaning in 20 min.

And I've never had sticky bolt. I just clean the gun. Hot water removes cosmoline and corrosive salts very well. Cosmoline melts around 56 degrees I think

I'd say go for it but factor that into the price and let the seller know. Sticky bolts on these rifles are a sad fact of the refurb process and can be caused by different things. You'll have to diagnose the issue after purchase and fix it yourself. Common causes are unpolished extractors, ill fitting cocking piece and bolt body and a poor cleaning of cosmoline. I personally discovered another issue on my first Mosin, that of a bent firing pin. The entire pin was slightly bent and caused an extreme degree of binding in the mechanism. Easy to fix once I figured it out.

I've owned Mosins that are non refurbed and they're perfecly fine. Finnish put together bolts are great too as are Polish new production bolts on their M44s.

I'd say that 80% of sticky bolt issues are caused by inadequate cleaning. Take the gun out of it's stock, and give the bolt, barrel and receiver a nice bath in mineral spirits. Scrub the snot out of it with a nylon brush, and double check for any buildup behind the locking lugs. M-Pro 7 cleaner works too.

When you're done with that, lube it up it with something modern like CLP; NOT rem-oil or Hoppe's oil. Both of those absolutely suck at both lubricating and preventing rust.

All that said, unless you really want a mosin, it's neither a cheap gun anymore nor is the ammo cheap, nor will it likely be cheap in the future. Surplus is mostly gone and not coming back.
