Buying a Magpul STR stock and T2 with Scalarworks absolute cowitness mount. Anything to add or change?

I'm still an AR virgin, and I'm thinking I should finally go for one, though I've never been a big fan of rifles in general.
Would it be smarter to start by building my own just so I can have something tailored to what I know I like, or should I just pick up some basic bitch <$500 AR to see if I'd even like it in the first place?

As much as I hate agreeing with a shitposting furfag the grip in question utilizes a mounting system that's usually reserved for optics. It doesn't have a polymer nub screwing up into a rail gap, it has a metal clamp gripping the entire side of the rail and is kept tight by throw lever retention. The quick detach ability is a worthless meme but everyone who buys it does it because it's inherently a stupidly strong setup for something like a grip.
