Hey /k/ been browsing for a while and own a few guns. Grandpa says he will buy me a handgun for my birthday but i'm not sure what to tell him what I want. Had my eyes set on a 1911(i'm not looking for a carry gun just something I can shoot Jamal and Jose with if they come into my house. I'm not an idiot when it comes to guns before anyone tells me a 1911 isn't for new gun owners.

Colt 1911. A true classic. Shoots well, looks good, no bullshit, will be around forever.
What's your budget?

Probs not more than $600. I live in Mich so no gay laws to restrict me.

colts are a bit out of your range.
i would stay away from armscor/ rock island, they arent a super nice gun.
maybe another anon can chime in for a good 1911 under 600. Or you may be able to find one used? im a calicuck so i have no idea what prices in other states are.

RIA is fine id go for their slightly nicer line of guns(def not the GI) those are pretty GTG and their CS will take care of you worst case scenario. Other then that your best bet would be a ruger SR1911 or an entry level springfield. I hear mixed things about remington and would probably stay away but im not exactly an expert on those so take it with a grain of salt.

$600 is too little for a 1911, just have your grandpa buy you an s&w m&p 15 sport

Thanks for input. Been debating whether or not 1911 was the right choice. I thought RIA was decent from what i've seen. Gonna have to look into Ruger's line though.
RIA and Auto Ordnance make some really nice 1911s for that budget. I'd look into one of those.
AO is based in the US and probably the most accurate to the old WWII GI sidearms, but it has a firing pin safety while the Rock Islands do not, so keep that in mind.

Gonna limit myself to a handgun. Thanks for input though mate.

than you are an idiot

Second the Ruger SR1911, i bought a cheaper GI model and really wish I'd have spent $200 more for better sights. Also stay away from Remington. Friend bought one of their 1911's and the shit broke the first day at the range. Otherwise any metal framed pistol, ie Beretta 92/ CZ 75/ Sig 226 are all great shooters.

30 round rifle > 7 round pistol for home defense, since youre not going to carry
>>34120990
For the price of a P226, he could buy 2 CZs or Berettas. That's not a gun for a poorfag.

I might have future intentions to move to california so I need to limit my round capacity unfortunately, plus, if I can't kill Jamal with 7 rounds of .45 acp, I probably deserve to die.

youre either a troll or wont pass a background check to own the firearm in the first place
>>34121069
Oh no you've caught me! Let me go troll another board :(

If you can't hack it here dude...

I paid $500 for my police trade in, a little holster wear, but barely shot. Your typical cop uses their duty pistol once a year to qualify
>>34121185
Looks good mate, will have to check local dealers for police trade ins.

May be better deals out there, but here's one I found, got mine at a cabelas gun library.

If $600 is your budget you could get a Sig P320 or Glock 17 and not regret it. It's cheaper to shoot and theyre noob friendly right out of the duty box.
If you can manage save up for another couple units of time and spend $1100 on a Colt 1911 Rail Gun.
If you do go RIA / Ruger 1911 plan on dropping another $200 for a trigger job and 3 Mc Power 10 Mags.
(I really like 1911s by the way, 45 acp in general is my go to secondary, not a 9mm fanboy by any means)
