/k/, what's the proper procedure to call in support like artillery and CAS?
Without a laser designator, how do you figure out the coordinates? Please explain the different methods like using map + compass only, GPS + map, or any other ways. Assume I know nothing.
Thx.

>Assume I know nothing
and likely to stay that way too
pay attention during training
>>34117166
you look at a map, figure out where you are, figure out where the target is, call in the coordinates
it's not rocket appliances
Grid references on a map
Direct fire verbally over commas by bracketing then fire for effect directions.
Walk incoming fire in with flairs or signals
Mark the target and run away
>>34117250
Do you use GPS coordinates or map coordinates?
What about for CAS?
>>34117230
kek
>>34117017
why are you trying to call arty on your own guys.
hey now, you're not the enemy are you?
>>34117288
Give most accurate fix for own position, estimated position and bearing from you of target.
For CAS include how you're marking your position (smoke, panels) and any potential hazards such as high ground, powerlines, pylons or observed air-defence systems. If target is close enough, try and mark with different smoke or a WP from grenade launcher.

oh fuck off shitposter
>>34117017
Grid coordinates, topography, and smoke grenades. You should have an idea of where youre at at all times to at least an eight digit grid. Past that you can walk it in.
>>34117017
CAS and medieval are similar
>>34117017
>put down your crayons
>pick up your grid map
>pick up the telephone thingy
>tell the nice man the numbers where the bad guys are
>put the phone thingy down
>pray you didnt give the nice man your numbers
>continue eating crayons
Repeat until some dumb shit happens
>>34117709
What's danger close again? 200m?
>>34117709
What does Medieval mean?
>>34117840
Depends whether you're using mortars or artillery, the ammo you're using Smoke has none, rolling barrage is 100m, airburst can be as much as 500m.

air strike for those that are interested
Delta Foxtrot Three Niner this is Echo Bravo One Seven, requesting airstrike on the coordinates 38°53'50.3"N 77°02'11.7"W
I hate drinking every day like my friend eddy.
If you're incapable of remembering how to properly send up a 9 line, chances of getting munitions dropped are slim.
But in the most dire circumstances, you'll need a clear verbal communicating exchange with the bird starting with your position, a compass direction/distance to enemy target and a description of the target. The pilot receiving your call is going you have to be 100 percent certain the target is indeed hostile, there are no friendly ground or air anywhere nearby, and there will be no collateral damage. All that being said, you're likely not going to get a drop, even if the pilot spots people with weapons, there's nearly no way for him to confirm if they're friendly/partner forces or enemy combatants. The JTAC who authorizes the drop takes the responsibility for any ordnance released. Without a certified JTAC calling "cleared hot" on wings level, the fate of the ordnance falls on the driver of the aircraft. As much as pilots want to drop ord, they're going to do everything possible not to I'll the wrong people.
Tldr; if you aren't a trained FO/JFO/JTAC with real munitions dropped and logged, no pilot is going to be bombing anything at your command.

I guess now you can just paint targets on twitter.

What does NP stand for? Doesn't the mil use 8 digit grid?
>>34118127
Makes sense. What about arty or mortars? Same type of hesitation?
>>34117882
>tfw forgot how to do 9 lines and all that
Here I was thinking I'd never forget after screaming 9 lines into a radio that wasn't turned on in full gear on the ramp
>>34117788
Ok. I laughed more at this then I should've
>>34118778
the same 8 digit grid could be in North Carolina or Afghanistan
NP in front of it is a specific geographic section
>>34118778
Every map has a designation, for example the map of the area around West Point is Whiskey Lima if I remember correctly
>>34117230
steel rain, steel rain,
it;s not that complicated, but you have to adjust the impact alot.
Search "call for fire" on google. There is some good video about it.

Please watch the documentary titled Tropic Thunder for a real-life footage of infantry calling in an airstrike in Vietnam.

truth is stranger than fiction.
>>34123260
then you give roughly what country the target is in and let GSRS take care of it.
>>34117017
If you're that interested, might as well read the actual CAS manual.

Then you're applying a rocket rather than using rocket appliances
