It is an odd rifle, kind of pointless other than "just because". If it was in 7.62x51 it would have more appeal even though muh BEE AYY ARR was in 30-06.

You can even tell that LAV is kinda perplexed by the choice to make it in 30-06 only.

But not much else. However energy over distance no longer matters when there are rounds with better external ballistic drag coefficients that can reduce the need for such energy to be able to hit those distances with enough lethal energy.
Now we have shorter cased 7mm/270 WSM and 6.5 Grendel already in a world when .300WM makes all the difference between anything that can hit beyond 1km.
