Since you want one for home defense, consider looking into a Beretta 92A1. It's got an all-metal construction that makes it easier to shoot than any of the polymer framed guns, is incredibly durable and reliable, and has cheap magazines and a good aftermarket. The 92A1 in particular is great because it updates the 92FS design by doing things like adding a frame buffer, adding a rail to the dust cover, upping the magazine capacity without making the gun larger, and beveling the magwell. It's a little above your price range--it can be found for ~$550 in my area--but it is worth it.

There are a few caveats though. It's not a great gun for CC because of its size, but that's irrelevant when it comes to home defense. It also has a grip that many people find large. This can be adjusted by buying lower profile grip panels to replace the default ones if need be.

Don't get a handgun for home defense, get an ar pistol with a sig brace.

If I were you I'd get a spartan side charging upper for the upper.
Anderson Lowe is fine.
Caliber could be 300 blackout, very good sub sonic 194 grain expanding bullets available for it.

If you still want a pistol then get a cz 75 sp 01 tactical urban Grey, it's 650 for the real version, 600 for non rail. Above price point but very good and a good deal.
