hello, do any of you recomend the Ruger Mini14?
im thinking of buying it becus of gun laws in Norway and was wondering if i can shoot moose with it. any experience?
>>
For the price I don't recommend, as for moose I'd want 30-06. Apart from those Remington sports thingies I can't really think of a semi 30-06. So you're best bet is to go with a bolty.
>>
>>34088693
do you have any other hige capacity semi rifles to a better price you would recomend witch could go under the a hunting rifle?
>>
>>34088678
>Literally the gun Anders Brevik legally purchased to kill 80 college students
>Not banned by BBC loving liberal government
>muh country's gun laws are so bad guys feel bad for me!!!
>>
>>34088700
Not in anything bigger then 308, if you can find one of those Remington 30-06 semis then go for that.
>>
>>34088735
what dude? i didnt even know this was the gun, but i dont want your sympathy retard. i just wanna get the best gun i can for the smallest amount of money.
>>
>>34088735

you don't need a quality gun to kill 80 unarmed scared children.
>>
>>34088735
This nigger literally has to tell the government a reason to own a rifle.

All you have to do in my state is not kill yourself before you're 16

Then why did you mention
>muh gun laws
when you have the best gun laws in the continent except for maybe the czech republic
>>
>>34088748
Just pointing out that any other country east of the atlantic that hadnt already banned scary looking rifles would have done so at that point, count your blessings

Get a browning bar in 30-06, I know the remington one Anon is talking about but it's not as common.

Anyways you're better of with a bolt action.
>>
>>34088678
Yes I own one, you won't regret it. I will would buy this over my AR anyday. AR = jams, issues, etc.

Like the other anons have said, get a gun with a bigger boolit, if you want to hunt moose with it. These things are great guns but not really ideal for long range mooseing. I'd recommend you just get your bog standard 30-06 durr rifle with some nice glass.

i have a Mauser 30-06 from 1939 so i can shoot moose with it, but i dont want to modify it with scope.
the mini14 would be a multi purpose rifle for me. sport shooting and "stuff" but it would make a great excuse to be able to shoot moose with it. this rifle will take down deer and other small game with ease, right?

Best not to hunt Moose with 308, it would only be effective inside a couple hundred metres. 30-06 is clearly the better choice.

Mini-14 is light for moose, but you can do it in a pinch up close. Use copper bullets for maximum effect and check your local laws, I don't know if it's legal over there. Over here it depends by state.

That said, like others I suggest bumping up in caliber. The Browning BAR can be had in a multitude of calibers, and on your side of the pond 9.3x62mm is available. Fantastic choice if you can handle it.

That said, you can take out a moose with a .243 if you're again using correct bullets, but my person ground floor would be a 6.5-7mm caliber. IIRC 6.5x55mm is extremely popular there, .270 is extremely popular here. They have comparable trajectory and effectiveness on game. Other cartridges in the Mauser/.30-06/.308 family will do.

If you're purely in this for hunting I suggest getting a bolt/lever action of similar price to the Mini-14, that will buy you a decent rifle and scope in any reasonable caliber.

It's also been used in plenty of situations by U.S. police fucking up cultists and criminals. Everywhere I look in Wikipedia shootout articles, I see mini 14s used by the police. Get the gun. Is good.

Norwegian here.

Get a Mini-14, mate. They're awesome. I've been modding mine since fall 2013 and can give you a few pointers based on what I've learned if you're interested.

Pic related - it's mine.

.223 is not powerful enough to meet the energy requirement for big game here, so it's a no go for moose. If moose or big game hunting is something you need it for, I'd like to turn your attention to the Browning BAR Match, for which I believe there are 20-round magazines available if you want something for magdumping fun, or the Vepr Super.

kill moose? no.
>>

It is not a calibre I am very familiar with, but if you would take into account the laws for hunting here (somewhat abridged and loosely translated by me):
>Big game: Bullets with a weight between a) 138.9 gr and 154 gr must hit the animal with a force of minimum 2700 J at 100 metres or b) Bullets with a weight greater than 154 gr must hit the animal with a force of minimum 2200 J at 100 metres.
Again, it is not a good with which I am particularly familiar, but looking at 123 gr Federal Fusion, it looks rather grim for it. Now, I cannot attest to the truth of this, but I have heard of exceptions being made for people who handload rounds hot enough to meet the energy requirement and can provide sufficient documentation to that.
Now, what I may or may not think about whether a bullet is big enough or not does not matter much at all, because the OP won't get the Mini-30 approved for "hunting all legal game".
That's no reason to pass on the rifle of course, he can always get another rifle to go hunting big game with.

The .223 Remington (or 5.56x45mm NATO) is not powerful enough to be legal for moose hunting in Norway. You need at least a 6.5x55mm Swedish or a .308 Winchester.

The 7.62x39mm is better known as an "AK-round" in layman's terms, and will provide you with enough force on impact to secure a kill, although at a slower speed.

Use the following formula (see pic related, where "m" is mass and "v" is velocity) to calculate if a cartridge is powerful enough to do the trick.

Basically, in Norway, any round that has a bullet weight between 138.9 grains (9 grams) to 154 grains (10 grams) must have a total of 2700 joule (275 kgm) on impact at a 110 yards (100 meters).

For bullet weights above 154 grains (10 grams) the requirement is 2200 joule (225 kgm) at 110 yards (100 meters).

Basically - the Mini Thirty is like a Mini-14, but with a larger caliber that allows you to hunt moose in Norway, and not suffer any legal consequences.

Hope this helps.

The long story short is:
Asshurt AR fanboys who can't stand the fact that the universe contains a viable alternative to their memegun will screech all day about the Mini-14, but people who actually own a Mini-14 (like me) love it. Buy in confidence.
