In the first they storm his house, but they have no real reason to believe he can take out 15 guys and he does. Now they know. He never goes home again until he's in the clear.

In the second, they don't aim to kill him because they need him in the first assault on his house. Then after that he never goes home again.

So the times people are actually out to kill him, only once would sniping even have made sense, but we can probably assume John has some protection against this, likely security systems out on his perimeter and a landscape that makes sniping him difficult.
