What does /k/ think about the p938?
I'm considering it for concealed carry and/or home defense.
This would be my first handgun, so I'm very open to opinions from more experienced /k/ommandos than myself

It's pretty good for CCW, as for home you're better off with a long gun. I recommend the sport model, comes with factory tritium sights for defense and a tritium/fiber optic front sight for the range (fiber optic with tritium underneath it).

Fine for carry, but get something else for home defense.
Any recommendations for home defense?
I assume there's better suggestions than just "shotgun"

AR. You can get a decent starter AR like an M&P Sport II for around $500. PSA freedom kits are pretty good entry level rifles as well.

They are tiny little 1911s designed for 380s but with a 9mm wedged in them. For a first pistol it might be very difficult to learn with or enjoy but it will be easy to begin carrying. Also learn how to reassemble one properly before you buy it, there is a part that can break easily.
For HD, well it's a pistol in a good caliber. Part of the bonus of having a gun in your home is you can have anything without worrying about the size. I have a decent sized compact that is covering both but it can be a little heavy to carry. It's there for portability and if something bad actually happens I have the shotgun to fall back on.

>first handgun
ehhhhhhh, I'd get a decent compact and get gud with that, then a sub compact for carry.
that being said a little pricey buy nice guns.

I carry my p238 in the pocket cocked and locked all the time.

I like them, for concealability and comfort. Go for it.
For home defense, try an AR-15, 16" (or an AR pistol with a barrel no shorter than 10", for maintaining lethality of 5.56).
