I've been using nothing but a boresnake since 2009 and its fine. Just make sure to replace them when they're filthy enough. If the boresnake ends up feeling like a hot dog in a hallway, its probably time to replace it
>>
>>34056265
I don't know if i would run a boresnake through a dry barrel. I could be wrong, but I thought generally with those you'll want to run a patch with some sort of solvent on it through first.

That's literally not physically possible without ripping aluminum tho. If you're tearing aluminum, there are bigger problems at hand, and also if you DO ruin the receiver extension threads that way and need to replace it, being able to remove the castle nut non-destructively and without gorilla strength is a further benefit.

For someone who doesn't shoot much, is it a terrible decision to sell my AR? I live in a cuck state and I have a registered (but neutered postban type) AR worth about $1300. Just bought a Mini-14GB (old police model with bayo lug) for $500 and selling the AR for that extra $800 is pretty appealing.

Thoughts? I figure if the AWB laws here either get worse or better the AR will just drop in value. Could always build another AR for $700 if the laws improve.

>>
>>34056513
What castle nut and tube is that?
>>
>>34056786
There is no castle nut in that picture. It's a receiver end plate and a carbine receiver extension.
>>
>>34055849
Is that a 2.5-10 or 1-4?
>>
>>34056639
Well that sounds fun. I'd love to go back, the badlands were beautiful.
>>
>>34056793
Yes. I mispoke. Are they all cut like that? It's been a while since I've installed or looked at a milspec one.
>>
>>34056809
They're all cut like that. The only extensions that don't have such a cut would be a rifle extension.
>>
>>34056513
There's quite a bit of play between the cutout in the buffer tube and the nub on the end plate. Try backing out the castle nut a little bit on one of your rifles then torquing the stock, You can probably get it to go about 5-10 degrees either way.
>>
>>34056818
Yea. Thx. I googled. I guess I could have done that first.

With the PWS ratchet so cheap there's no reason to stake a castle nut ever again.

I just googled images to find examples but I believe it is a DPMS end plate and BCM receiver extension.

They're milspec, and all others on the market will share the features I outlined except for those receiver extensions which are integral to proprietary stocks such as Magpul M93, UBR or anything A1/A2.

>>34056820
Sure, but not enough that you would be able to feel the difference on your shoulder or cheek, and not enough that would affect the function or usage of the firearm in any way. It's just annoying for autistic spergburgers like me to look at. I have stripped the threads on a receiver extension before, it takes a lot. Staking the castle nut doesn't prevent it from happening, it just gets in the way of easy replacement.

Wrong!
i noticed my castle nut was loose and my stock was shifting around a few weeks ago, it was after i removed my kac castle nut to strip the paint and it wasn't torqued down enough.
>>
>>34056856
My autism entirely prevents me from letting that happen. Removing a staked castle nut isn't exactly difficult, you just knock the metal back towards the endplate.

I had mine come loose one time and cant on me. I definitely noticed and it felt awkward. Pro-stake after that.

>>34056921
Well okay we're splitting hairs I think, he was talking about the stock shifting off center once and you mean your stock so loose that it's repeatedly wobbling under shoulder pressure. Two different things I think, both related to castle-nut-tightness.

The tl;dr is simply wrench down your nut nice and toight but no need to stake it.

>>34056937
My autism noticed one stock off-center one time too. I simply righted the extension and cinched the nut down again. Never had an issue since. No staking required.

I think sir our autisms are in agreement, but methodology differs.

My only complaint with the SCH was the width, those pokey arms are long and sharp enough to sometimes dig in when slung. The ACH fixes that, so it's basically absolutely the most perfect ambi CH of all time forever.

Just wish it were cheaper. Jizzo sale is on this weekend, good time to buy some.

I recently built an AR, and took it to the range with my buddy for the first time Sunday. We did the typical "one magazine with one round" first test fire. Then moved onto the "One mag, two rounds loaded" test. The action ran smooth as butter, but then pulling the trigger wouldn't work.

It turned out that the trigger wasn't fully returning home (that final little click at the end). I ran a lot of lube down into the trigger assembly when I got home, and tested out the lower by cocking, pulling the trigger (no, not snapping it, rode the hammer), then, with the trigger still pulled, cocking the hammer back again, releasing the trigger, and pulling again. Before lube, I got the issue from the range. After the lube, it now works.

Do you guys think I'll have any issues in the future? One friend who may as well be an armorer said it is possible there was a small bur it needed help initially working through, or something to that effect, and will likely be okay.

Get a Mini 30 instead. 5.56 is just designed to wound, while 7.62x39 is designed to kill
