Nah, the really big problems were mags and ammo.
Mags were intended to be disposable but lol too much time and money, better reuse those or you have no mags.
The second would be overpressure ammo causing extreme wear and all kinds of timimg issues.
Cleaning was a problem, but really like the least important of these three. Not cleaning your gun isn't good, but the other two are extremely alarming issues no matter what gun they happen to.

This shit was all fixed on the M16A1 by issuing proper mags, making the buffer heavier to slow down the action to proper speed, and finally including an actual cleaning kit in the stock, with instructions on it's use.
It also had a chromed bore and chamber, which mainly was intended to prevent corrosion or other things which could make extraction difficult (there are various stories of leaving a round chambered for extended periods being very bothersome to extract, leading to carrying with an empty chamber being typical practice before the A1), but it also has the added benefit of extending the life of the barrel and making it a breeze to clean.

Foreign matter getting into the gun was never a huge concern, on top of a good dustcover, the action is pretty well sealed and does a good job of blasting out whatever foreign matter might work itself into the bolt carrier (as the bolt carrier basically acts as a gasblock and piston unto itself).

Now, if you are say, a Navy Seal or MACVSOG, someone who on occasion might actually make an attack while emerging from under water, the AR has the disadvantage of not handling it's action being full of water very well at all, but 1), the rifle really only takes a second to drain and be safe, and 2), these people would generally use subguns for these maneuvers, as they suppress really well compared to a 5.56x45mm rifle or carbine.
For basically the rest of the world though, emerging from underwater and immediately shooting isn't something you end up doing regardless of your weapon.

Yes, I did watch the video. Beginning to end. I'm not saying that there's nothing wrong with Mallninja McFat's AR, in fact, I gave the exact problem with it - the buffer is too heavy. Either that or, less likely, the gas system is choked and there isn't enough gas coming through to cycle the action. It's probably the buffer. Neither of those are catastrophic malfunctions and are relatively easy to fix.

As for all of the others, they were trying to fire into a squibbed barrel. That's more of an ammunition problem coupled with shit training. Whenever you have a live round in the chamber and you hear a click when you pull the trigger, you eject and examine the cartridge. If it's a light strike, then you can chamber another round and continue normally. If they eject an empty case, they have to stop. That's a squib. There's no way to fix that on the field.
They didn't check the ejected cartridges, they didn't stop, so eventually, they KB'ed their ARs.

The AR platform has a few issues I don't like, but I'm forced to defend it because the video is shit and disingenuous.
