I'm pretty sure all of the old star wars guns were modified real guns. The idea is to give them more common-ish present guns.

Anyone who uses a blaster rifle in Star Wars is an idiot. Blaster bolts have insanely low fps. They can be deflected by lightsabers and and other energy weapons. The wounds they leave are self cauterizing. Guns (which do exist in Star Wars canon) have a much higher fps, cause massive organ trauma, and if a jedi tries blocking the rounds, the saber melts the slug and molten lead flies into the jedi's face.

the issue with your assessment is that blasters seem to cause very heavy damage in the star wars universe to the point it disintegrates chunks of metal, and being able to flip to "stun" IS useful. name a single person in ANH or ESB who gets tagged by a blaster and lives

iirc, at least maybe in the old EU (cant remember) the CIS army was like quadrillions or quintillions in size. at some point, quantity of arms is important.

rebels: FAL rifles, Browning HP pistols. oldies, but goodies. +1 for freedoms

Storm troopers: they use carbines in SW, they would use them irl. MP5s, P90s, M4s, and the occasional LMG. sidearm would be machine pistols, in true german tradition. probably generic and mass produced, so like a G18 or a micro-uzi

Clone troopers (early): M14s. the vietnam comparison is present in the Clone Wars. later on they move to M16s and the smaller carbines.

CIS: something cheap. VERY cheap. as in, "let Taurus and Kel tec have their way with a home depot" cheap. it may wind up being on par with the Pipe Rifle from Fallout 4, or an Owen smg, or vulksturm rifle. if they splurge, it could be SKSs.

They aren't really that OP, stormtrooper armor is supposed to be complete ballistic protection, and the only reason stormtroopers don't get esploded from blaster bolts is the armor dissipates the enrgy on purpose. The rebels only dont esploded because of movie ratings, in the OG scripts for the films the stromtroopers aboard the tantive IV heads exploded when they got hit
