Moving to northern Alberta soon and I need a bush rifle for bears, cougars and oil companies. I like lever actions and have seen a few in 30-30 and 45-70 govt that I like. Any other suggestions out there? (keep in mind it's Canada so no restricted firearms such as hand guns or AR15 platforms)
>>34038745
>restricted
Get an RPAL
>>34038760
Still can't carry it. It's not that I don't have an RPAL, it's that you cannot legally carry restricted firearms on crown land without an ATC which is for professional trappers, oil workers running security ETC.
>>34038798
Oh so you're just moving there
Can't remember if the sks is restricted. That might be a cheap yet good gun that's not restricted.
>>34038745
30-30 for sure. Personally I would go with a 30 06 bolt gun though.
>>34038819
30-30 over 45-70? Second question, where can i get 30-30 in bulk for a halfway decent price? I don't mind spending the money for personal safety but bush hiking without practice is obviously not a smart decision
>>34038745
Leaf here, If bears are a real concern where you are hiking, 45-70 or 12 guage with slugs I would say.
>>34038819
Fuck 30-30, but second on the 30-06 bolt gun.
If you've got money to toss around, an M1 Garand wouldn't be a bad idea either. Basically the only semi-auto centerfire rifle that isn't limited to 5 shots.
>>34038846
30-30 is an obsolete cartridge
>>34039835
30-06 is obsolete too
Marlin 1895SBL 45-70. Fuck everything in front of it other than plates.
Get a Rossi ranch hand in 44 or 45 colt. I got 45 colt because much hotter loads if you reload with less pressures. Real bear stopper. With some marbles sights on them and a full size stock and plugged safety, this thing is the best brush gun I can think of that's not too heavy or long like a 12 gauge or 45-70. Pic related
>>34040062
You're retarded. 30-30 is a great durr gun. 30-06 can handle anything from small whitetail to grizzly bears to African game. It's been used for a long fucking time for a reason
>>34040062
What's your recommendation then Debby Downer?
>>34038846
>30-30 over 45-70?
yes, 45-70 is absurdly expensive
>>34040218
probably a bolt gun in 308 or a short barreled shotgun for weight
>>34040218
30-30 is a rimmed, over sized (for smokeless powder) and expensive
also there is no reason to choose 30-06 over 308
>>34038745
hey that desk is in a swamp not an office!
>>34040395
Countries with military ammunition banned or not nearly as common, a lot more hunting selection, much better at longer range where the difference is noticeable
>>34040378
Get a dominion arms 12" tube fed shotgun for bear defence. Don't get the ghost ring sights
>>34040062
>30-06 is obsolete too
Which is why gun makers still offer it as a caliber right?
>>34040236
>what's reloading
Also 45-70 is night and day difference for defence. And I'm a 30-30 guy too
>>34040733
>a lot more hunting selection
is there? there's tons of choices of 308 here and almost every store has it
>>34040750
tons of obsolete products are still produced and available to purchase, what's your point?
there's many reasons people hold onto old calibers, could be because they already have guns in that caliber, and dont want to have multiple calibers, could be because they have reloading equipment, and sometimes just because of fuddlore
>>34038745
Just get a 30-06. Tikka T3x or Winchester Model 70 are the best.
>>34040395
>also there is no reason to choose 30-06 over 308
The extra powder allows you to use 180 grain bullets for heavy game without sacrificing velocity.
>>34038745
Nothing puts down bears harder than a 12ga with slugs.
>>34041176
Did you shoot it with vz?
>>34041185
Not that one, but a dumped a charging bear with it before.
>>34041114
This.
>>34041198
And how did x39 take it down? Where are you from?
>>34041114
>Going up to a long action only for a small difference in bullet weight.
>>34038813
SKS is non-restricted but the ammo selection for hunting is a bit lacking.
>>34040742
>Get a dominion arms 12" tube fed shotgun for bear defence.
I carry a Norinco HP9 14" barrel but same idea. The Chinese have really stepped up their 870 clone shotgun game to the point where I'd say theirs are better than Remington's and at half the price.
>>34041227
I tapped out 6rds of Hornady 125gr SST from 10ft . All where in the head neck and chest so he just cratered.
>>34041324
*were
>>34041324
Tell the conservation officers?
>>34041244
>he cares about action length this much
>he doesn't want to throw a heavier bullet faster when the factory ammo cost is virtually identical
>>34038745
Personally, and because I've become a fanboy, get a Savage 99. I have one chambered in .300 savage. Honestly my favorite rifle to shoot. Plus they come in a huge range of calibers so you should be able to find one that'd suit you. Although .300 sav should be good for anything from coyotes to bear. It's very close to .308 win ballistically speaking.
>>34041468
Fuck da fish faggots.
>>34038745
Norinco HP9 or DA Grizzly are probably the best combination of small size, power, and affordability.
>>34041198
>that ear profile
>that obviously black fur
how dare you point that at him, black bears is gud boiz
>>34047492
#blackbearsmatter
>>34043628
I have the same gun, belonged to me great grandfather. I love it dearly
>>34038745
Henry All-Weather. You won't regret it.
>>34038745
Leaf here, Get a 12 gauge pump and be done with it
>>34038745
If you're cool enough.
>>34038745
I wouldn't want to go up against an oil company if I were you. If they want your land, they'll stop at nothing to take it from you, by any means necessary
>>34043628
Second on the savage. Got me one in 308 I want to remember for 358 for a great bush rifle. Wish I could find a nice take down myself though but I'm a poor far right now
>Not recommending a Nugget
Is oar
Is fishing pole
Is firewood
>>34049288
Can confirm, the Scout is a handly versatile little rifle.
