I'm just curious as I've never really branched out from FMJ.
To be clear, this isn't a discussion about calibers, so take your 9mm VS 45ACP pissing match elsewhere.

In certain aspects, it most certainly is.
Thanks for the post.

People Defense

.40: Winchester PDX-1 Bonded 165 Grain
.357 SIG: Speer Gold Dot Bonded 125 Grain

Woods/Black Bear Defense:

.40: Some kind of FMJ, 165-180 Grain
.357 SIG: S&B FMJ 140 Grain

.45acp 230gr Federal HST or Speer Gold Dot.
9mm 124gr Remington Golden Sabers, to be replaced by 124 HST when they get used up.
.38 special 135gr+P Speer Gold Dot, with 125gr+P Golden Saber as backups, 158+P lead hollow points as last ditch backup.
No longer carry a .380, but used to use Critical Defense, Golden Sabers, XTPs, or FMJs.
The ammo crisis taught me to not be caliber or brand loyal. Just carry something that is reliable in your gun.

In my 40 I carry PDX1, however I'm not opposed to carrying HST's or V-Crown as well
In my 357 magnum I carry PDX1 because it's basically ass I can find locally anyway.
In my 9mm I carry V-Crown, but I wouldn't be opposed to carrying HST's. I'd carry Barnes if they didn't load their rounds like pussies.

Standard ball rounds. JHP is a meme but I don't expect plebs to understand why.

I used to use 115gr Federal HST but now I only use Speer Gold Dot 124gr.

Don't overthink bullet selection as skill and profiency will dictate whether or not you are effective in stopping a threat. Stick with HST or Gold Dot as they are both proven, modern duty loads that are used extensively by LE.

What I like about Gold Dot is that Lawman FMJ is the training component that mimicks the characteristics of Gold Dot in that it is loaded hotter than most range ammo and has similar POA/POI.

115gr Lawman has the same trajectory of 124gr Gold Dot so it's all I shoot now. Just don't buy the 20rd boxes of defense ammo as they're typically marked up considerably compared to the 50rd boxes.

Federal Premium HST

Comes in .380, 9mm, .40 & .45

Even if defensive ammo only comes in 20 packs, shoot a box of it at the range to make absolutely certain your gun feeds it.

If HST or Speer Gold Dot don't feed, continue down the food chain until you find something that is reliable.

JHPs are a meme that reduce wounding effectiveness.

>only comes in 20 packs
Not to say that all defensive ammo comes in 20 packs, but some stores / ranges may only stock the 20 packs for the higher mark up.

9mm Sig Sauer V-Crown 124gr in a glock 19

I plan on switching to either gold dots or hornady critical duty/critical defense

In 9mm, .45 ACP, .357 mag, I carry Speer Gold Dots. Usually 147 gr, 230 gr, and 158 gr, respectively (iirc). In .32 ACP I carry Underwood loaded Xtreme Cavitators.

carrying FMJ with 9m is just begging for trouble

it really does penetrate well, ie. you shoot some bad guy the bullet will go thru him and then hit somebody else

Whats the problem with a 19?

I carry one myself in a shoulder holster under my suit with 2 extra mags under my other shoulder.
>>
>>34031958
I use Hydrashocks in the summer time. And in the winter I use hollow points with a rubber plug so heavy coats dont stopp the mushrooming from happening. Both Hornady.
