What's the smallest caliber you feel safe using for self defense? I carry 9mm in a P07, but I would not mind something smaller if it works for defense.
>>
I'd say .380 is pretty much the cut off line.
>>
>>34016489
As my first line?
Probably 9x18 makarov, though I would begrudgingly go down to .32 ACP.
As a backup though, I'd go down to .25 ACP though I'd prefer .32 ACP or bigger.
>>
>>34016489
.380 is the FBI standard cutoff desu senpai.

I could go down to a .32 Keltec with FMJ if I had to, but normally I carry a gen3 G19 with Federal HST.

I would have no problem with using .22 as long as it's from an automatic weapon
>>
>>34016524

Yeah. A .380 with some good hollow points would be about as small as I would go.
>>
>>34016489
My 9x33 is as small as I'll go.
>>
>>34016541
likewise I'd have no problem carrying a 22 if it wasn't a piece of shit. basically the only option would be the ruger mark series
>>
>>34016541
i wouldnt mind having to use my 10/22 for home defense

you can unload an entire 25 round mag in like 3 seconds
>>
I would use a 22, or a 9, but fuck 380 32 25 etc.
>>
I'd say normally a 380 hollowpoints in a pocket pistol but I'd rather have 9mm. In a revolver my cut off is 32sw longs if the barrel is longer than 2".
>>
>>34016489
Hey senpai. What is your carry ammo? Right now I'm using Sig V-Crown.
I also carry an LCR in 357 in my pocket but I occasionally carry 38 special in it because I can hit a 3 inch group at 25 yards with it in that gun.
Just as a fun gun, I wouldn't mind having a 32 but the ammo costs too much for such a small round to justify buying it.
>>
>>34016489
I have a pocket .32, and I'd probably never go lower
I put faith in the cartridges ridiculously long service life and the near mythical speed of follow up shots
>>
.22lr, the shit ain't exactly a fucking bee sting.
>>
>>34016992
I would take a 22 over a .32 or a .25 any day
>>
>>34016970
Seecamp?
>>
>>34017063
I actually started carrying my dreyse just because I liked it waaay more than my 938, but I plan on getting either a Tomcat or seecamp

22lr with a large mag, and a suppressor; pretty hitman tier shid.
>>
>>34016788
>>34016541
I'd love to have a 10-12 shot 22 revolver with a nice light trigger that worked with 22 primers. Sucks that all compact revolver offerings are 8 shot, you could fit so much more in a cylinder.
>>
>>34016864
Corbon +P 115 Grain JHP. Really it closer to +P+ and it's some evil shit even out of a shorter barrel. Nearly 1400 fps muzzle velocity and 480 foot pounds of muzzle energy.
>>
>>34018154
Thats out of a 3.75 inch barrel. Forgot to add that.
>>
IMO, 9x18 is as small as you should go.

Also, I'm surprised there's been no .45 shilling ITT.

The gun you have is always better than the one you left at home. Even 22lr would be fine in a reliable semi-auto with a 20+ round mag. Not gonna one shot stop but will ruin someone's day.

Fine, if you can handle snubnoses and their neutered barrel lengths

And cylinder gap won't affect anyone, provided you're not standing directly next to someone while shooting
>>
.32 Auto, specifically hot 73gr FMJ Euro 7.65mm loads. It penetrates enough and is of sufficient diameter, so I wouldn't feel unarmed with it.

Anyway, this one old guy said he pocket carries 2 22lr snub revolvers or both hands. He says he has 20 sure-fire recoil free rounds right in his front pockets and he can hose anyone down with them. I guess you really have to find what works for you.

Yeah bro I carry dual Ruger 22/45s as my EDC. I got badass looking suppressor style barrel extensions beaded on them for the intimidation factor and I have white grips on one and black grips one the other to represent my dual nature of biggest nice guy you'll ever meet but also a pure evil mercenary that will be a thugs reckoning if they make my fires rise. They are also black and white to represent the love I have for my wife's son.

.380 is probably the smallest I would choose to carry for defense. I usually carry 9mm though.

That being said, even .22lr is better than nothing.

.32 ACP

there are several stories of .22 failing to penetrate the forehead (thickest part of the skull). I do NOT want that happening to me.

.32 ACP does penetrate the forehead according to some anecdotes online (one guy attacked by druggie, other guy putting down farm animals)

20mm of course, if they still have the leg I shoot then they can escape, so a 20mm tracer incendiary is my choice
>>
>>34016541
.22 lr has feeding issues
even with lever action guns
>>
.22lr kills people okay, especially out of a rifle barrel like they are designed for.

For a pistol I'd say .38 spl or .380.

If you are just defending yourself against somebody with a knife or bat a .22lr pistol will do the job. I wouldn't try to stop an armed robbery with something like or a Bobcat or P22 or Buckmark or anything that though.
>>
>>34016489
.25acp with FMJ, even though 22lr with quality ammo from a revolver is pretty reliable
Anything below 9mm luger I'd use FMJ, .38 special I'd use wadcutters.
9mm and up, Hollow Points.
Most calibers work, i.e. achieve sufficient penetration, but the calibers smaller than 9mm luger tend to have less than optimal penetration with hollowpoints so you have to choose between expansion or penetration.
>>
>>34018761
Not retarded at all. They work.
Bonus points for not leaving spent casings
>How far out will escaping air still hurt bystanders?
Maybe 30cm?
>>
>>34022479
Yeah weaker pistol rounds should be fmj, even up to .380 or .38 +p.

If you use .22lr for defense use 40gr roundnose.
>>
>>34022497
Man the gap is harmless. I had a .357 and due to my freakish long fingers I braced my index finger on the base of the barrel.

I never even really noticed it until I noticed carbon on my finger.once.

It might blow up sheets of paper but not human skin.
>>
>>34022518
Yeah I've never tried putting my fingers there, I have small hands. I've heard stories of people getting hurt with .44mag though. I've shot mostly .38 revolvers because lolbrazil so never even worried much about it.
>>
9mm
>>
>>34022550
. I never did that with a .44 magnum but I don't think it'd deglove your finger or whatever crazy shit people think it'd do.

I'd carry a .17 HMR any day of the week.
>>
I have seen tons of .380s fail to feed is this common? Could it be cheap ammo? Buddies new sig couldnt make it through a mag. I got my ccw and im considering a pps because of how many times I have seen .380s have problems.
>>
>>34016489
smallest as in bullet diameter? .22, but in a wildcat cartridge, like 22 hornet. 9mm is the smallest i'll go as far as common cartridges.
