In what scenario would you use a light grease over oil? Is grease a meme?
I bought one of their starter kits with most everything you need for a fully disassembled cleaning, as I am a recent hasgunz, and I'm pretty happy with what I got for the 30 bucks I spent.
Only real gripe is that the container of Hoppes has an opening that is way too small for the larger brush, so you can't actually stick it in the container as they specifically tell you to do.

Oil oozes out of your gun and evaporates. Grease lasts longer. Just be sure that whatever lube you use is rated for high temperatures. Automotive wheel bearing grease is cheap and suitable.
aren't you supposed to use grease on choke tubes or something?

Grease slow moving parts and oil fast moving parts. Or vice versa noone really knows.
gun oil is a meme.
all my guns get 10W-40 motor oil, same as my bikes
>>34012633
M1s require grease not oil
grease for things that slide, oil for things that pivot
>>34012672
i asked about grease rather than oil, not a review of hoppes you mongoloid

Came to say precisely this. Stick your remoil up your ass and grease up like a man.
I have gallons of used motor oil I use, both cleaning and oiling.
lifetime supply and it was free.
i just got some of this grease. its scented with cherries
Personally I use grease on moving rails, BCGs, and big moving parts. Oil on springs and extractors. Seems to be working well so far.

I know it will work anyway, but how do you enjoy all those combustion residue and sludge shit?
Oil is a meme. Guns run perfectly fine dry.

But for how long?
>>34013032
say that again after firing a gun thousands of times
>>34013052
Forever
>>34013063
As long as you don't clean your guns the residue with heat will create a natural lube. No need to clean or oil guns, ever.

soot/carbon fouling is abrasive.
>>34013088
Your attitude is abrasive.
Lithium grease on every contact, wax to protect, and oil on bores, parkerizing, springs, screw threads and whatever else can't be waxed easily.
But grease causes a much smoother glide for contacts and stays where you put it way longer and is much less messy.

If it slides, grease it. If it rotates/pivots, oil it.
I use pic related.
>>34012633
I just use clp on everything it works fine for me.
>>34012883
might not want to use that my man. motor oil that has been exposed to the temperatures and gasses of combustion tends to cause pitting if left in contact with a surface. at least it does in an engine block. cleaning with it and wiping off is probably okay.
>>34012848
this. grease is great for locking lugs on a winchester 92 or other large sliding surfaces. im not sure i would put grease on something not actuated by human hands, though, like a semiauto pistol slide for example.
>>34012633
>>34012757
this, OP. clean motor oil is cheap and perfect for guns. throw a blowtorch on a camshaft, or a bearing, or a transmission main shaft: oil will weep out of the metal. 10W-40 will keep your doodads safe, will withstand operating temperatures, and not foul your chamber or cylinder like grease can.
tbhwy desu a camshaft i ordered from iskanderian came packaged in cardboard, paper, bubble wrap, and cling wrap on the machined surfaces. what's under the cling wrap? oil, not grease.
soon as my hands get a stainless SAA, that piece is soaking in oil for days to help with breakin
>>34013032
Have you tested your theory out on a brand new delta elite before?
I use grease on contact points
1) if it rotates it gets oil.
2) if it slides it gets grease.
3) if all you have is one or the other you're still good to go.
4) if you're caught without lube just spit on it and go to town.

Long term storage, like if you were going off to college and you had to leave your guns with your parents for a year or so. I know a lot of people who grease hard-to-reach parts of their guns, I just oil regularly since I'm a lazy bastard who doesn't like to take shit apart beyond basic breakdown.

These are correct.
You grease the hinge on an over/under for example, and the parts where the receiver slides into the barrel assembly and metal meats metal. Versus on a semi-auto, where you would oil everything.
Some guns need both, just in different parts.
