Personally, yes. I like all my rifles to have BUIS, regardless of optic type or mount. In reality, most modern combat optics are going to be built to the point that they can take retarded level abuse and still be functional enough to put rounds in the general direction you need, if not better.

That said there are enough low profile, low weight options that having BUIS should always being a thing, assuming you have the rail space.

I'm thinking about buying one of those Troy rifles, either their XM177E2 clone or their GAU-5/A/A but I'm having trouble deciding between them. As far as I can tell, besides some markings, the only difference is the XM has a FA while the GAU doesn't. Is that the extent of the differences or are there others? Both also seem to have full-fence lowers, is that correct for either of those guns?

I've been wanting a nice carbine and I love the retro look too. I've been thinking about piecing one out, but it seems like it's harder than ever to really source everything. It would be nice to just place one order and get everything I want all in one package, brand new.

With a 1x option, just regular BUIS, anything with a minimum mag over 1x, offset.

I would recommend you get one of those attachements that lets you change magnification quickly if you get a variable with a 1x, if speed is an absolute must for you. In all reality, if you were at a high magnification like 4,6, even 8, and a dude/target popped up that you had to shoot immediately at "oh shit" range, you would just point shoot.

It's really not that bad. Seekins is pretty decent and you can actually hold onto some of the rifle rather than just eventually replacing everything on it like you would the 6920.

Like I said, depending on how much you paid, its a good buy. Think of it this way: if you want to sell components and build off that, you'll get a lot more than what you would selling the shit off a 6920.

The only Colt prebuilt I sorta like is the CUC, and that's because its a very nice gun that just needs a trigger. The obvious caveat, is that you have a rifle called a CUC.
