I go turkey hunting fall and spring until I hit my season limit. Recurve, crossbow, black powder are my favorite, just because of the extra challenge and having something interesting off-season to hone my skills with. In my state, it's legal to rifle hunt turkey on private land, but not public, and I prefer .22 sniping them from 100 yards instead of shotgunning them at 10 yards, which is what most people seem to do. Besides that, the primitive skills seasons are much less likely to have a bunch of guys who haven't fired a gun since last year out there tromping everything down, throwing trash everywhere, and generally acting like morons.

Every year I see the same dipshits treating hunting season like the Super Bowl. I love football, but hunting is a different mode.

I'm not gonna lie, wild turkey tastes like shit, but I've eaten it for 20 hunting seasons with every recipe you can imagine to try to make it passable. It seems completely wrong to call yourself a hunter if you are going to waste the meat. I trap the small stuff and use a .17 HMR for the yotes (centerfire calibers damage the skin too much). My record pelt for Coyote was a $235 2xl AAA grade black phase in 2013 (I was really tempted to keep that one for me), but my average is probably close to $120 for a big pelt without any scars, and my average overall for Coyotes is probably close to $90, because most here have scars. Coyote is almost always a strong market, but if you blow big holes out the other side of them, you're not going to be able to sell.

My best Racoon was around $70, but average there is probably closer to $30 for the good ones and $20 overall. If you can't store the hides, most of the time it isn't worth the effort to skin them. Average sell price across a given year is under $15, you've gotta be able to sell them when the market is strong and hold them when it isn't.

Mink, you're lucky to average above $15 a hide, mink farms keep a lid on the price. I trap them to keep the population down because I have chickens, and do the same for neighbors.

I used trap beaver, but they' haven't been worth $20 for several years, and they're a lot of work for $20.

Bobcats are where the big money is, a Western bobcat is worth almost $400 on any given day, but they are super rare here, an I'd pass one up if I saw it, in hope of letting them get more established.

You might think that it doesn't take any specific courage to hunt, and if you were talking about blasting ducks or even big game at long range, you'd be right, but you can't hunt dangerous game (Wolves, mountain lions, moose, the 'Big 7", et al, without at least some courage.

You are instead using the word pussy to try and demean people who do something you don't like, which isn't actually a statement on their courage, it's a statement on your social development.

Yup just came here to agree with this post. If there isnt at least a somewhat valid reason for a kill then its just a waste. You might as well just shoot your neighbors as if your using population control as a reason people really are the most overpopulated.

There are a number of good reasons to hunt!

Animals left unchecked will eventually start intruding on human land, type geese eating the land bare and shitting it down. You also get raccoons and black bears rooting through your trash, moose, reindeer or deer grazing in your garden, grizzlies and polar bears making themselves at home in the city...
>trophy hunting
Trophy hunting is immensely important to many African countries as a source of income, and helps fund conservation efforts. You pay out the ass to shoot a dumbo that's either old and dying, or marked for culling because he eats up the poor folks' crops. You get a pair of legal ivory tusks to take home, the farmer has his land in peace, the safari company stays in business and pays taxes to the government that helps fund conservation and anti-poaching efforts. Everybody wins!

Predators left unchecked will kill off other animals before starting to starve. Larger animals will eat up all the fuckin saucy ass leaves so there's none left for the smaller animals, who in turn start starving. Inbreeding and diseases become a problem, and animals that would otherwise have gone swiftly by acute lead (or copper!) poisoning instead get to suffer a drawn-out painful death.
Humans have been hunting for so long now, and introduced so many foreign species to the ecosystems that they might collapse of the populations are not kept in check by hunters.

Of course you can hunt for the meat too! Meat that's free of additives, from free-range animals, 100% ecological, from a sustainable source.

Shoot you an animal and get a nice rug on your floor, pelt on your wall, coat for the wife, scabbard for your gun, a new pair of shoes, a belt, a hat, or some assless chaps. Shit, get the whole creature stuffed and decorate your living room. You'll likely employ a taxidermist or seamstress to help you with it, which means you're contributing to keep them in business and paying taxes.

Predators generally taste bad.
Wolf meat has strong flavour and big cats are downright toxic.
Bear meat however makes for great sausages.

I generally avoid wasting it tho.

Sking the buggers and tan some leather.

Send a few meat samples on analisys and if turns out to be allright i feed it to my dogs but mince the better parts and make sausages out of it which i then smoke for about a month.

Predator control only exists because cowfags are too stupid or Jewish to protect their herds. Furthermore predator control necessitates the need for prey control because there's not wolves, cougars, etc. to keep deer, small rodents and other prey animals from eating their habitat to death.
