Is there a more underrated rifle than the M1 Carbine? It seems like everyone dismissses it for it not being a Garand or an AR-15.

It's not fair. The M1 Carbine is a great gun and is fine just the way she is.

What the fuck are you talking about??

I want a PS90 in .30 carbine
>>
>>34006367
>Rifle
If it had full auto we'd call it an SMG.
It's not bad at what it does, just what it does is kinda underwhelming when you could easily built an assault rifle instead. The M1 carbine was a conceptual dead end, simple as that.
>>
>Guys with winter gloves in 1951 hip firing full-retard M2s at charging commies.
"Why, .30 Carbine barely does anything at all!"
>>
>>34006670
>If it was full auto
The paratrooper version was full auto, which is who it was designed for. Also it's stupid light, like ludicrous how light it is compared to any modern repeating arm.
>Conceptual dead end
it was the first rifle with a short stroke piston, which is used in innumerable modern firearms
>>

>It seems like everyone dismissses it for it not being a Garand or an AR-15.

nigger go look at gunbroker. those guns fucking cost 1-2 grand easily.

they have been stupidly inflated over the years.

I said conceptual, not technical.
>>
>>34006367
The M1 Carbine is underrated because it's shit and also serves no purpose. If you're hellbent on a light shooting fudd like combat gun, the Mini-14 does literally everything better at half the cost or less.

Eh your opinion is for you to opine away.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ateT144BgPk

Still it was as these two say in a paraphrased way, to have a pistol that fires like a rifle sometimes rather than the MP44 which is a rifle that acts like a pistol sometimes.

.30 carbine still lives on as a concept in a necked down cartridge as 5.7 and the M1 in P90.
>>
>>34007381
>P90 is the modern M1 Carbine
Now you've got me imagining an alternate SG-1 where they got the stargate working in the 1940s with a nuclear reactor under the mountain.
>SG teams wielding M1 Carbines and Garands
>racing across the galaxy to claim it for Truth, Justice, and the American Way before the damn Soviets get their gate working

Beautiful, if only that could have happened in real life for the time...

>The paratrooper version was full auto,
The post WW2 M2 carbine was full auto, not the M1 and not thr paratrooper version.
>which is who it was designed for.
It was designed for rear echelon troops and vehicle crews.
>Also it's stupid light, like ludicrous how light it is compared to any modern repeating arm.
Not really considering how weak the cartridge is compared to modern intermediates. The Mini-14 is what you get when you scale the design for a reasonably powerful cartridge and that is by no means a light rifle.
>it was the first rifle with a short stroke piston, which is used in innumerable modern firearms
The AVS-36, which would become the SVT-40 predates it.

It's not an opinion. The M1 Carbine is objectively worse than the Mini-14.

It's a criminally underated CQB weapon platforms, that's for sure. Noone ever forgets that shootout video with that cop in Georgia and the Nam vet once they see see it

my favorite carbin all time, even more favorite than my AR-15 even though it jams alot and jams some more

it is a gun that is so handy and underrated that you still want one even though it jams alot

Thanks, asshole. It's been like a year since I've thought of the screams.

Maybe he got that from Band of Brother's , because a few guys actually managed to convert their M1A1's in the Normandy.
>>
>>34006367
I own two, not replicas.

They're overrated.

If you have one, keep it since the value inflates quicker than fucking gold.

this thing was a nightmare for them

30 carbine is not a pistol cartridge, it's intermediate.
>>34006754
>>34007779
The M1 carbine was originally intended to be full auto from the beginning.

I had one. It even had a paratrooper stock. Honestly, it was great for it's time, maybe even revolutionary, but it has been surpassed in performance. If you want one because it's cool, fine, get one. If you want one because it's capable, just get an AR pistol.

No, you want an M1 carbine in 5.7 Spitfire.
>>
>>34008815
Semantics. What we commonly call an intermediate cartridge has the potential to be a service calibre for all troops like the 556 or the 762. .30 carbine doesn't, that's the difference.

You mean the PDW concept which had its heyday in the late 80s through the early 2000s and which still exists to this day
