>hurr durr the AK47 isn't a copy of the Stg44 it's completely different mechanically

It's a copy of the concept of an assault rifle, not the specific mechanics behind it, retards.

everyone was already thinking about a select fire intermediate cartridge rifle by ww2.

7.62x51RFN was considered an intermediate cartridge at first.

so, why didn't the US and the majority of the world adopt one after WW2?

Using this argument, one could claim the StG is a clone of a Fedorov FA.

how dumb are you? we're talking about an actually mass-produced frontline weapon adopted into tactics and military doctrine on a large scale, not prototypes tested out on a small scale

Might as well call the Chauchat the first AR with your retarded reasoning

blame army acquisition and Springfield armory

someone sold them that they could take existing parts and tolling and make new and better rifle.

that we didn't need no Waffle-nigger FAL rifle. Which was supposed to be a true intermediate cartridge but the USA pressured them into 762RFN.
>>
>>34001381

Hm, 3200 FA built.. In practical use from 1915 to 1940..

Used in the war with Finland.

Meanwhile, compared to the Mp44, based on a Belgian design using stamped components and shy of an external resemblance sharing no features with modern AR's.

At least the FA survived in a variant in other designs.

The Mp44/StG 44 was a dead end. All the tech used in it's manufacture already existed pre/during WW2, it made a minimal impact post WW2.

Not sure why you like the thing, have you ever shot one?

>Half-assed

We beat the shit out of the commies, but lets be real; we started up the draft because of that war. It was barely half-assed.

>we started up the draft because of that war

Myth: Most Vietnam veterans were drafted.

2/3 of the men who served in Vietnam were volunteers. 2/3 of the men who served in World War II were drafted. [Westmoreland] Approximately 70% of those killed were volunteers. [McCaffrey] Many men volunteered for the draft so even some of the draftees were actually volunteers.
>>
>>34002366
That's because enlistees got better treatment than draftees.
>>
>>34001166
Then obviously the STG44 is a copy of the concept of this monstrosity by your logic, retard.

>posting Ian

>Forgotton Weapons' video comparing the AK and StG focuses on how they weren't even born out of the same conceptual process, but rather that the germans were focusing on making a high capacity rifle while the soviets were focusing on making a more powerful SMG
>>
>>34001166
The Stg44 shares nothing in common with the AK except for the fact that it's a long strokegas piston system (which you might as well say the Germans stole from the M1 Garand by your logic) and the fact that it's an intermediate caliber. Also 8mm kurz wasn't the first intermediate caliber, just the first to be mass produced and in a select-fire rifle with a detachable box magazine. The Stg44 was at the time more like a beefed up SMG anyway and that's how the Germans treated it. The
>le mp44 was trying to trick Hitler
meme is bullshit btw, it wasn't until they started issuing the things that they began to fill that role. Fuck off
>>
>>34005344
Ian's argument was that the Germans were trying to make a lighter rifle is bullshit though. Both were trying to bridge the gap of course but the important part is that they were going from smg to assault rifle, not rifle to assault rifle. Just look at the construction of the Stg44. All cheap stampings. You don't use cheap stampings on a rifle in 1940.
>>
>>34001381
>moving goal posts this hard
>>
>>34001491
To be fair, the layout of the STG-44 pretty much turned into the standard thanks to the AR taking so many ergonomic cues from it.
>Meanwhile, compared to the Mp44, based on a Belgian design using stamped components and shy of an external resemblance sharing no features with modern AR's.
Did you just refer to all assault rifles as "AR's"?
>>
>>34005344

>high capacity rifle
>fully auto small bullet

sure dude
>>
Was there any technical reason the StG 44 couldn't be built at the start of the war? Materials science improved a lot at the time, was that a limitation or just that they hadn't had the combat experience and time to design it yet?

>>34005429
>le mp44 was trying to trick Hitler [...] meme is bullshit

Why did they change the designation from Maschinenkarabiner (MKb) to the MP series then? They were issued to combat units under the MKb designation.

Not saying you're wrong but that "meme" is omnipresent and seems to be supported by Hitler's actions at the time.

>>
>>34001166
Except the Federov Automat is Russian an handily predates the STG-44, and the Russians developed 7.62x39 in 1943, hence M43 ammo.

Every side steals ideas and weapons designs in war. Everyone stole german gascans, germans stole SVT-40 gas pistons for their semi-auto rifles, but the AK process and STG ones were developed at roughly the same timeframe, and mechanical and structural differences imply that in this case there was hardly any copying going on, even of concept.
