What does /K/ think about a henry 30-30? Looks hella fun, thinking about adding it to my collection for targets and fun.

Henrys are good to go. Look at the .357 if you can.

It's not just that. Winchesters are pure sex.
Henrys are great guns. I'm going to get their new single shot once it hits stores. You won't be disappointed.
>>33992738
>implying that Henry Repeating Arms in any incarnation has made better rifles than Winchester
OP here. I wanted 30-30 because ammo is very cheap and easy to come by, already have a .357 revolver and i don't really want to blow all my money on .357 rounds
I agree winchesters are easier to load but if im just scoring targets, reloading shouldn't be too hard.
Never used a lever action before and old western movies definitely play a role with lever actions.
the loading mechanism of the henry, as in the tube is kinda annoying. for pistol caliber rifles I'm okay with it but I would recommend the winchester or possibly marlin
>>33992880
May have to keep my eyes pilled for winchester, thanks anon. Money isn't a issue with the gun, more so the ammo i run through. So I'm usually willing to drop the extra money on the gun itself.

I mean, he's not wrong. I love my Henrys, but you can't beat the 92/94 for pure A E S T H E T I C S
Legitimately some of the most beautiful guns ever made.

Winchester '73 > '94
>>33992917
A pre-'64 Model 94 is about the best choice you can make when looking for a .30-30 levergun.

stop it anon

The 30-30 is a shitty cartridge that drops like a gold cannon ball and hits like a limp-wristed faggot. The only reason it is still around is because old farts like to pretend they're cowboys and jerk off to pictures of Chuck Connors. If you are on the Henry route, I would suggest you buy a.44 magnum or the 45-70.
If you want to use an actual cartridge, you can get one in .308 Winchester that would be excellent for hunting. Though, if OP was a real man, he'd get the Ruger No 1, because a real hunter only needs one shot.

I'd love to show you some of the deer and hog kill shots I've made with a .30-30, and you'd probably be surprised at the distances.
>>33992600
Lever actions are obsolete, and 30-30 has piss poor ballistics.
>>33992600
how hard are level guns to maintain?
>>33992889
.357 is like half the price of 30-30.
>>33994955
Harder than bolt, easier than semi-auto.
You really don't have to take out the bolt for cleaning though, so just run patches through the barrel and wipe down the receiver.
I wanted to get a Model 70 to check off that bolt-action rifle slot at some point. Do they still manufacture Winchester products in the States?
>>33995030
The M70s that Winchester makes can cost a lot but are very nice. Be prepared to pay a good bit for it.
>>33995020
thanks

They're on a whole other lever.

Can you not? I mean Jesus Christ.
>>33995041
They're under 1k. They're also superb, my Model 70 kinda ruined me and I can't bring myself to buy cheaper bolt guns anymore.
>>33992914
>possibly marlin
Aren't Marlins assembled by literal retards
>>33992600
Get something with a loading gate. Much more fun imo, which is largely the reason you get a lever action in the first place.
>>33994985
They're like $.05 difference in price/round
>>33995097
Underrated
>>33992600
There's really no reason to get a Henry in .30-30. While they are great guns, there are so many old marlins and winchesters out there in .30-30 for half the cost of a Henry you may as well save a few bucks and get one of those. If you decide one in a different caliber then absolutely go with the Henry, it's the best built levergat for the price right now.

buy a used one
